32·11 days agoHow debian is lightweight ? Isn’t it have too many bloats pre-installed ?
A distro i can build myself is actually lightweight. Like Arch or Void.

3·12 days agoHow can you trust their advertising claims. Research about “Don’t Be Evil” claim and what happened to it.
Even from the outside look it’s clear that this app is completely build using AI and all accounts inside it can also be AI bots.
Actually how many social media platforms people need nowadays :(

28·12 days agoDon’t download and create accounts on random apps claiming privacy focused. Also your posts title is misleading. It’s not a privacy app, but mentioned as privacy-focused social media.
Absolutely, AI Slop.

1·12 days agoTumbleweed is good but everytime I debloat it via the myrlyn in installation window, it breaks and fail to boot. Have issues with ctrl+alt+f2. No built in recovery tools like fedora or maybe i can’t find it if it’s there.
The packages are updated as a group which means no matter how much i debloat, it will always return. I fear using addlock can cause any dependency issues also.

21·12 days agoNot for modern hardware from my experience. Instead of suggesting one distribution, I would say Debian for some old hardware models and fedora is the sweet spot for modern hardware.
This is the most privacy-hardened phone ever created. No more tweaks needed. You are good to go.
Also, after Google locked down Android, most phones will behave exactly like this.

4·26 days agoBut with a always on VPN they constantly ask to verify our identity, even with passkey or phone number.
Even when I successfully verify my passkey, they will still sent a SMS code to my recovery number. It’s almost impossible to bypass that step and try another method button redirect again to the same phone verification page. If I didn’t give my number, then this message appears, “there is not enough information to prove this is your account. try again later.”
Maybe VPN is a factor that triggering their security system.

54·27 days agoBecause many services only have SMS as 2FA option. Especially government services.
Also it is impossible to use google without enabling the SMS 2FA option. No matter what, with only 2FA authenticator app or email, they will lock down the account by saying “unable to verify”.

Learn Programming@programming.dev•Trying to learn website development by developing my own from scratch.
1·1 month agoActually, I am learning more than I expected. I thought website animations were implemented by JS, but just now I pushed a commit by adding animation to an image just using the CSS keyring property. And it was much simpler than I imagined. No rush, no complexity.

1·1 month agoI use ghostwriter to write blogs in markdown. Then with the help of a converter i convert it into html format and modify it from there.
Why not directly write in HTML?
Because for me writing blogs in direct html feels so hard for several reasons,
- Adding tags every-time affects my writing flow.
- Markdown is so simple compared to HTML and ghostwriter shows a direct live preview on the side.
- Markdown to HTML converters work so well by converting the markdown symbols into proper HTML tag.
But why I may switch?
I would consider to switch to directly writing blogs in HTML when i have enough knowledge about web development. The reasons are,
- It is harder to correct or tweak lines of converted HTML, when compared to directly written HTML.
- Converters are not perfect either, they make mistakes when identifying equivalent tags. Then later it will become a headache to review again and again.
- Later we have to implement CSS and class by reading each line of converted HTML, which actually doubles the effort.
- If I learned HTML, CSS and JavaScript well, and get comfort with it, then there is no need to write in Markdown format, use Hugo/Zola, find a good pre-built theme and keep it from breaking, etc. HTML, CSS, JavaScript manages itself everything.
- Managing our own website and writing blogs in it is actually very interesting and exciting than writing blogs in someones else’s template/theme. (No matter we get viewers or not).
I recommend directly writing on HTML rather than Markdown to reduce the effort needed.
Thank you for the resources. It looks very helpful.

1·1 month agoYes. For now, it would be too hard for me. But i will do it once i learn more.

By bloat I mean specifically those kde applications and games that almost all beginner friendly distros bundle in.
