4·2 个月前I’ll be honest. I listen to a lot of ambient/EDM while working, and I probably wouldn’t even notice if they started slipping AI content in, and probably wouldn’t be curious enough of the time to look into it.

Science@lemmy.ml•We Can Make an Antigravity Machine—And Unlock a ‘Mind-Blowing’ Future, Oxford Physicist SaysEnglish
3·2 个月前The experiment they propose to test the theory involve two masses about the size of a cell. So, big enough that it might someday (in the next 10 years they think) be possible to detect the gravitational waves, but small enough that they can still be entangled. If gravity is truly quantum in nature, the gravitational waves will be too, which is what they want to look for.

17·2 个月前About 10 years ago I was walking in lower Manhattan and traffic was bad. I kept up with a Google maps car for about 10 blocks. So for about a year I was in 10 consecutive blocks of street view, always in about the same place. Should have screenshotted it. Sadly it’s long gone now.

Books@lemmy.world•What book(s) are you currently reading or listening to? August 04English
9·2 个月前I just finished The Reversed Centaur’s Guide to Life by Cory Doctrow a few minutes ago. The central argument is that when a technology exists that makes a human better in a way, that makes the human a centaur (part human, part tech — the usual term for this would be cyborg, but that’s not as funny). What we have now in the age of AI though, Doctrow argues, are a bunch of techs that ride humans to get better. It’s not an anti AI book per se, but does a good job of pointing out how easy it is to fall into the trap of supporting a system that offers nothing in return.
I love F451, and it’s usually the book I recommend to people who want to get into serious/thought-provoking reading. It’s quite short for a novel and very approachable, the vocabulary isn’t too complex, the characters are easy to get into, and the story is compelling — it’s basically a light thriller. But when you put it down you can’t help but think, “wow, I just read something really important”
I think 8 double shots would get you in spitting distance of the LD 50 for caffeine, so maybe don’t try that :)

I think it’s the love child of George Washington and Cory Doctrow, two freedom fighters.

Also whether people will be too hungry to riot or not.

What I DO mind is bailouts where the giant megafarmcorps are still allowed to keep their profits, give out dividends, do share buybacks, etc and then not lower prices (and probably ask for another bailout)

30·3 个月前Let’s hope they get the Enron treatment for their actions

True, a narrow reading would be “if you tell the machine to do X and it does X, X should be attributed to you”.
A more broad reading (which I think is the right one, but I’m not holding my breath over since it’d tank the economy) is “if you build a machine that can conceivably do X, and then without anyone doing anything else, it does X, X should be attributed to you.” I agree that the quote from the FTC chair seems more like #1 than #2, but one would have to draw the line somewhere.
