I think that illustrates how messy this whole federation thing. but it’s a mess that I somewhat welcome as that’s the beauty in it if that makes sense.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•What's the “Malfoid” trend about?English
4·2 days agoI like galfoy more. I’m going tk start using it. malfoid just sounds wrong and have that incel terminology attached to it. that’s why I thought at first of was some culture war shit at first but instead it’s just some genderbent thing artists and fanfic writers like to do that got trendy and viral.

Technology@lemmy.world•Kids Hooked on AI Chatbots Are Showing Dramatically Worse Mental Health: They're turning to AI chatbots for help, but their machine confidantes are doing more harm than good.English
5·2 days agoagreed. with what have currently now with LLMs , from my basic understanding it couldn’t ever be up to scratch. maybe some other methods and techniques of AI might be developed and will be able to, idk. as far as I’m concerned the sci-fi AI some want is still going to be science fiction atm
yeah I think that’s my conclusion from trying two different distros so far. I’m way too much if a tinkerer. it’s already one thing to jumping from Windows to any Linux and the baggage of having a Windows mentality. maybe with bazzite I’ll revisit it again when, say, I want to build a TV console for games and other media. that one should be at worst a “tinker and config the hell out of it once and be done with it for a long time” affair.
and yeah, I think I’m getting the distro hopping is fun bug. I already have a decent enough back up discipline so changing OS again isn’t too big of a hassle. and with the two distros I’ve tried, it really is a lot smoother to just change an OS compared to dreading reinstalling Windows.
I see I misunderstood what Staff said, thanks.
Yeah, I think you’re right. Maybe bazzite isn’t for me. I just have that tinker itch every now and then.
And hey, a live service game I’m playing recently had a massive hack that many people affected had to reinstall their OS just for self assurance. That somehow also could affect people running Linux. So I might as well hop to another distro this weekend.
I’ve been thinking how to reply to this. IDK how to make it coherent so I’ll just dump my ramblings. So sorry to subject you to the song of my
peoplebrain. So basically I decided one day I just wiped Windows off my machine for forgotten reasons and replaced it with cachyOS. the installation was pretty straight forward since I’m doing basically a clean install. I also forgot why I decided to wipe CachyOS and install bazzite 2 months ago.
I think using both cachy and bazzite as is, like installing doing basic things such as installing from their respective software store, it is identical. no fussing about. cachy has more options out of the box that they show you while bazzite is a bit more streamlined. it’s when you brought your Windows tinkering monkey brain and want to monkey around that there might be some problems I feel like.
cachy being arch derived, there’s always the arch wiki to plumb the depths on to learn and do almost anything. so I’m pretty good at following instructions like that.
so because of my tinkering monkey brain, the additional layers on bazzite of using mostly flatpaks, how to control and extend configurations on them, and all that somehow short circuits my brain a bit somehow.
in other rambling points, bazzite is definitely has a lot better presentation out of the box. cachy’s choice of their software store is uh, very software engineer aesthetics and UX.
I couldn’t get cachy to stick to using colemak for everyday usage, and have steam games default to qwerty when playing them and have to change keyboard layouts before I start the game. on bazzite I didn’t have to do that, most of the time.
I think next I want to try nobara, another gaming focused distro, but this time it’s full fedora, not the atomic fedora based bazzite.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What are some Lemmy (non-ML) hive mind things that you don’t agree with?English
1·3 days agoYeah at the very best it becomes dull when they grew in sub members count. of course the worst outcomes are it became flooded with stupid memes, whining; if it’s something gaming related massive tribalism and Gamerism (iykyk), or larping ass mentality with gatekeeping tendencies and know-it-all way of posting.
I’m just mad that r/manybaggers have become boring of the same 5 brands being bandied about, and miss the more varied bags from 2016 (ish) from posters back then. even the mods is now not posting much, and I had a great time conversing with them back then.
I’m glad that my gacha addiction of choice, Nikke, is here and there’s some regulars. we don’t talk much and only posts fan art most of the time, but hey, at least it’s not as memey or whiny as the equivalent 3 subreddits

6·3 days agoI usually stick to more low stress low “intellectual” posts to comment on. Like this post for example I usually wouldn’t comment because it has a higher chance of getting barbed comments. I definitely do not comment in political posts lol.
No, I’m still on a nvidia card and I’m not sure what version hdmi my monitor is
My comment is more general vibe of my experience with bazzite. similar to what Staff below me said, sometimes it just have some weird inconvenient ways to do things when I need to, for example, use the terminal to look up some folders or change things. idk I admit I’m still not too good doing things in the terminal but adding another layer of having to learn what an immutable distro adds on top seems to be tripping me more.

2·4 days agoI want the good part of reddit circa 2015 - 2020, I think. At least that’s around time when I joined reddit and was active. They’re kind of medium - large size back then. Plenty of small to medium-small communities with niche interests and inclusive generally. Have sane rules and moderation
At least that’s how I remember it. Rose tinted glasses and nostalgia, on top of whatever side effect I got post covid time.

9·4 days agoThanks. As an ESL, somehow I never come across that short form despite being online as a teenager since the 00s.
Idk if I like bazzite or not. I started my Linux change around 5 months ago I think. Started with cachy os. I think it was going fine but something slowly broke so I changed to bazzite 2 months ago I think.
The fun part is it’s quick to just distro hop. I have my backups all okay so that helps a lot. When everything works both was working fine and easy I feel.
But when something starts to get wonky, I’m kind of struggling a bit more with bazzite due to the atomic nature. Idk that’s just the vibe I’m feeling.

that deep regal royal purple is just so nice. and I just like a lot of shade of orange for vibrancy
