Technology@lemmy.world•AMD ‘had to re-engineer’ the Ryzen 7 5800X3D for a re-release — 10th Anniversary Edition chip had ‘a whole body of engineering work’ put into itEnglish
67·2 days agoThe specific chip is only 4 years or so old. The 10 years refers to the Ryzen series first release.
Why this specific chip? It is the fastest available for the older AM4 socket + DDR4 combination, so it is highly sought after by people upgrading their older rig without having to buy new expensive DDR5 RAM or a new mainboard.
Out instance on https://movim.slrpnk.net/ will be of course updated when time allows, but I am currently busy with another project and want to switch to a better container image for Movim as well (sorry for the current image preview issues).

Fediverse@lemmy.world•FYI, blahaj.zone is down for the next few hoursEnglish
13·3 days agoThere used to be a women’s space on slrpnk.net (although a bit unfortunately named after a controversial Reddit community), but we could never really find women willing to moderate it longer term and the amount of dudes showing up with trollish comments became a bit too much for us admins to handle.

1·5 days agoAfaik that was mentioned as the plan in the Euro-office announcement post, but OnlyOffice has been designed for maximum compatibility with the Microsoft formats and .odf support is only an afterthough.

Opensource@programming.dev•Given the recent uproar about AI usage in rsync a PSA: maintainers owe you nothing
1·12 days agoI have not looked at the CVEs in Rsync specifically, but given the deludge of “critical” security issue found by AI lately that have been mostly nothing burgers, I am near certain the same applies to those included in that Rsync patchset.

Opensource@programming.dev•Given the recent uproar about AI usage in rsync a PSA: maintainers owe you nothing
1·13 days agoThe “critical” bugs that I have recently seen being found by AI were all extremely unlikely to be exploitable under realistic assumptions 🤷
They started to get really pushy about the premium features, so I removed it again.

122·15 days agoThey could have just refused merging slop. Rsync didn’t need these “contributions”.

Opensource@programming.dev•Given the recent uproar about AI usage in rsync a PSA: maintainers owe you nothing
226·15 days agoTaking a project that works fine and making it actively worse by introducing AI made bugs is imho a valid reason to hard fork. The maintainer might not owe you anything, but it shows very poor judgement to slopify a good project like rsync this way.

53·21 days agoPin a tab in your browser. Almost no difference to a desktop app that is a web-wrapper in most cases (and would be for sure for Movim).

Self-hosting@slrpnk.net•Aggressive AI scrapers are making it kinda suck to run wikis
3·26 days agoIt will probably go down, but the process itself is kind of unavoidable for training LLMs, so I doubt things will go back to how they were before.

Self-hosting@slrpnk.net•Aggressive AI scrapers are making it kinda suck to run wikis
22·26 days agoNot only wikis sadly. Anything that has public facing deep links that trigger extensive database operations are being hammered by these bots and few servers can take the load.
If tankies would read actual theory and not just fan-fiction they would be very upset right now.
