12·4 days agoIndependence, while not a fringe issue, is about as politically unpopular there as ICE is here, for different reasons. use whatever polls you want, or read their own stuff:

I think, like most global things Americans are passionate about, Taiwan doesn’t want the freedom we want for them. The average resident just want tomorrow’s experience to resemble today’s, everyone should leave them alone.
NetBSD! I am currently learning UVM and it’s really impressive to a memory newbie
i love your mailing list, i learn so much about literally everything every single day from misc@
Sorry to bring this into the Linux discussion but OpenBSD is still here. even if the code were AI-generated it would have to go into the meat grinder of style, logic, and cleanliness that all human code goes through to get into release.
Maybe it’s time to consider your switch?
Emotions? i was confident that the Wikipedia article alone would grant you understanding, and for that, I have replicated the very situation I wanted you to learn about. This situation is my fault.
i loved Foundation! Gaia is for the lefties, the early books are for everyone else. There’s something for everyone.
Wikipedia Chinese room. It’s pretty airtight at the moment.

2·9 days agoyou are VERY young, then. i have success-tinted glasses from 2004, nothing delusional about it. learn about regular expressions and be amazed, you can even call it AI if it keeps you interested in it

you are familiar with this history of the open-source/proprietary dialectic yeah? at most deepseek stays a few months behind frontier models. your pessimism feels like a Microsoft windows 7 user’s pessimism about operating systems in 2008 (yes, it will get worse for you specifically because paying for the new model is easier than finding a good free one). If i were you i would probably be pessimistic too, but we would need to ban the open weight models and then VPNs too, and then effectively enforce these bans in order to get the future you predict. I’m not seeing it. And these LLMs aren’t very smart. Ask them about free alternatives and they’ll tell you.
