People constantly gatekeep metal music and it has become the norm for when I talk about metal with a stranger.
That’s why I want to know what the weirdest thing people gatekeep?
Does anyone else feel like they used to have the perspective that others were gate keeping them when they were much younger?
I feel like I used to think like this, but I had the realization that I just wasn’t asking the right questions or around the right influences/environment. Like with music, I’m a metal head, but it isn’t a definitive part of me like it was when I was younger. I’m unlikely to engage with anyone on the topic and would likely have trouble remembering a bunch of info if I was put on the spot.

Where does he stand on a dill sauerkraut?
Through years of being an internet-dweller, I’ve found people can gatekeep nearly anything. Depression and anxiety are some notable odd ones.
Honestly, this was already happening in my local music scene over a decade ago.
It’s a large part of why I got out of the physical metal spaces…
I don’t care if it’s swedish melodic gloom thrash death metal or whatever, I just wanted to mosh and have a good time.
I can talk about music theory, and technical masterpieces, and all that. Something can be technically impressive and still sound like crap. People don’t seem to separate the skill involved from the actual music put out.
That being said, I’m tool old to hop in the pit these days. Even if I didn’t get “hurt” I’d still be sore all over for a week lol.
