Yea … for something that Gunn is talking up as a whole new comics cinematic universe … this first glimpse is ahhh super generic and lame looking.
Like, as someone, and I’m sure I’m not alone, that appreciated Snyder’s DCEU and its tone, however many things went wrong with the films, I’m watching this and asking myself … “Gunn, did you really have to make everything from scratch, are you actually that good, or do you think you’re better than you actually are because you think your behind the scenes contributions to the MCU were ‘fundamental’”??
Like, I think we would have been happier with just more Henry Cavill?!
It’s sad that they really can’t seem to get away from “guy with the same powers, but evil!” rut for antagonists in superhero movies. And seriously, the “my family makes me strong, not weak!” cliche too?
yep … it was all veerrryyy tropey. Maybe that’s the point, a safe first entry to get things started. But it seems very dumb in this moment of Marvel fatigue to go and make basically another Marvel/MCU style film. Say what you will about Snyder’s DCU, it had its own tone and vibe and even stories. Like Batman v Superman, while totally overdone, had a core idea very different from anything in MCU.
