    I’ve always found such a patriotic superhero really cringe and it always turned me off. It’s like Canada is trying to imitate the U.S. with Captain America.

    That’s exactly what it feels like to me. A knockoff of the US character. But I’m not familiar with the history of the characters, so maybe the name+theme is just a coincidence.

    I rather have a superhero(ine) who have their own individual identity and is not tied to a nation.

    I’m in full agreement. Countries are complex, their ideals change over time, and they mean different things to different people. Trying to tie a product like a superhero to them is gonna be complex and sometimes gross.
