That hit hard because it was so very close to what I was thinking when I started that part of the article. Every mouth you take in is a serious dent on your supply of calories.
Anyway, that article went deeper than I expected. But regardless of morals or motivation, you would be a fool of a billionaire not to build a bunker. The $8.3m luxury series is pocket lint to the truly wealthy. Why not?
Thought a bit on the Shit Hits The Fan (SHTF) scenario. Know what’s crazy? I have 2.5 acres of swamp in the Florida boonies and there is no way I could grow enough to feed myself, wife and two little kids. And we’re tiny people! And even in wetlands, getting clean water would be quite a trick. We’d have to move to neighboring land and setup near the creek, which floods constantly. (You can tell by walking around and observing.) It would take every ounce of energy we could put in, all day, every day, just to eat. And while we’re out hunting and gathering and farming, who’s gonna guard the homestead?
I’m far better prepared for this sort of thing than your average Joe and I wouldn’t stand a chance keeping us alive for a year.
