Five background actors told NPR they had to undergo face and body digital scans while on TV and movie sets. The use of digital replicas is a sticking point in the ongoing strikes in Hollywood.

Its sorta funny. While not the same situation at all, there are two things I have done in between jobs as the opportunity arose. Substitute teaching and background work. It used to be with substitute work that you got a cert from the state (mainly to show you have at least a bachelors degree) and then you signed up with the secretaries office of the school and you could note anything you want (only call for math classes or I am not avaialble tuesdays). Then they pretty much called up folks when a teacher was sick prioritizing folks that have done it before and did a good job. It did not pay well but when you were out of work it was some cash to keep you going. Well they started fingerprinting and doing background checks. Which by itself was not bad except you had to pay for it. So you would need to substitute a few days to recoup the costs of that. Well when you are someone like me who only would do it when otherwise unemployed that was just not worth it. Again completely different with background work but I definitely won’t do it if they want to body scan me and use my image any way they want throughout eternity. I sorta feel bad for folks who will never get a chance to do that kind of stuff and feel I bit guilty I got had the chance to as they are both unique experiences.
