    Civil forfeiture laws are absolutely insane in this country. And I truly don’t understand how any of them are constitutional in cases where no serious crime (at least more serious than a seatbelt ticket) has been committed.

      Because, they’re accusing the money of committing a crime, not the person whose money it is. Which is fucking stupid.

        It’s a textbook example of how the legal system will find a way to “interpret” laws to mean whatever they want even, when the actual law clearly and explicitly says the opposite.
