Important Note!
Roku is forcing us to update our minimum device firmware targets by October 1, 2026. Currently we support old Roku OS versions going back into Roku OS 12, but they are forcing us to change the minimum to Roku OS 15.1.
Releases will be blocked if we do not make this change.
Y’all on older devices that are no longer updated or y’all who block automatic Roku updates have 3 options that I can see.
- Buy a new device
- Stop receiving Jellyfin for Roku updates after October 1, 2026
- Sideload the Jellyfin app, knowing some things may stop working as we make required changes to support OS 15.1
We’ll communicate with y’all as we start work on supporting this, but know IT’S NOT BECAUSE OF US! We’re being forced to do this, so if you’re affected, contact Roku.

I see a lot of the same questions here - primarily people want to stop fooling with Roku. I used Roku devices for years- even had the top model in the living room. I finally got sick of being bombarded with increasingly aggressive ads. I don’t know if they are still in stock, but I bought one of those ONN 4k Pro or whatever tv boxes from Walmart, loaded projectivy and it is great. Got smarttube working (doesn’t always work) and have my servers connected. Not a single ad. EVER. I can even play up to some ps1 games on retroarch from it.
