Videos of the protests got shared on the western internet but it didn‘t really go viral. We didn‘t see videos of mass arrest or anything.
That‘s because the arrests were spread out through days and weeks in hundreds of different operations. The Chinese regime is aware how powerful these images would be. So they use their surveillance state to do the dirty work quietly. People still protest. Major things happen but we barely hear about them because the arrests and killings don‘t happen in the public anymore.
