I recently got a Dierya 65% keyboard, and think it is rather thick.

Is this normal for a mechanical keyboard? Or is the Dierya exceptional high? Do you use a wrist rest? If so, is there anything special to look out for? Or will any wrist rest do?

    I have considered that too, but I’m not sure I trust I would be able to make the wood smooth enough.

      It’s not hard, but can be time consuming, break the task up. Rough out a shape in pine (soft, easy to work, make a second from hardwood later if you want once you know what you want) with chisels or whatever power tool you have access to, e.g. drill with grinder attachment (and a vise or some other way of securing the wood, screws work). Then just get different sandpaper grits and sand by hand, start with 100 or 200, then 400, then 600 or 800 and if you still don’t think it’s smooth enough, 1200 will get you there. Probably take a few hours, but you’ll have a handy new skill, and can refine over time.

        I agree very much with your suggestion. Just pick up some piece of wood and go for it. Nothing to loose, just pay attention and don’t do anything with power tools where you don’t feel save.

        Only on the sandpaper I would disagree - sure you can go to 1200, but spare yourself the time. 320 is more than enough in most cases.
