I’ve just noticed a correlation between that word and weird takes. When a comment refers to talking to “folks” it always seems like some weird explanatory comment that isn’t completely true. Like “Trust me folks, this is the case” would be an example.

I feel ya. Not on that example, it’s a bit weird to me even with your explanation (though I understand it more), but I do the same thing. There are certain things that, if I see it in a comment, I will immediately stop reading and disregard that person’s opinion. I used to downvote for these things (and, arguably, some of them do deserve a DV), but now I just ignore it. DVs don’t really do anything on the Fediverse, and the more valuable contribution is to give a genuine answer. If something isn’t worth contributing to, I feel like the most effective thing is to simply ignore it and move on.
I’ll give you one: if you can’t spell “have” after “should” or “could” (but you can spell those words), then you are not qualified to have an audience with me. And I don’t mean saying “should’ve”… IYKYK.
Okay, one more. If you use an acronym (or initialism, I don’t care) and I search it, and it’s not defined above the fold (i.e. without scrolling), your opinion is null and void. I’ve used “IYKYK” twice in the last 5 minutes. I checked, DuckDuckGo tells you what it is in the first result. I figure everyone knows “If You Know, You Know” but if not, anyone can highlight a word/phrase and long-press/right click it and choose “look up” or “search [your chosen/default search engine]”. Alternatively, if you wanna use a weird one that DDG/whatever can’t define, just define it the first time you use it. Everybody isn’t gonna do the research.
