Although you cannot see it here, the short eared owl up above had a vole in its talons. The bottom owl thought it easier to steal than to hunt. However, in the end, the thief failed.

Whether it’s against other SEOs, since they’re one of the few owls that will begrudgingly hunt side by side, or the northern harriers whose hunting time and style overlaps, I love these aerial battle photos and would love to witness it in person someday.
