Sounds much like a balalaika, but tuned lower and with a bass string. Notably, a balalaika has just three strings, of which two are tuned to the same note. And requires constant black-metal tremolo picking due to short sustain.
somewhat similar technique from mississippi guitarist RL Burnside. brush downstroke with the index finger, and upstroke, with the thumb downstroke. But Burnside anchors his hand below the neck while Kachamba has a freer strumming motion.
Bit late, but I recall him from a Ass Pocket of Whiskey with Jon Spencer, friend of mine was really into Spencer’s blues explosion back in the 90s…played this, hardest blues I have heard.
Badly quoting, “I need 4 nickles for a bag of potato chips…get the fuck outta here, here’s a foot up yo ass”. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2OCrpbUr2Xc
Fascinating, thanks for your insight.

Thank you.
Shame there isn’t a lot of recorded music from him to listen to. Thanks for posting.
You’re welcome.
