I’m really questioning the utility of IMAX, other than number is bigger type thing. I enjoy going to my local indie theatre with tables, reclining chairs, beers and a more relaxed atmosphere with much smaller screens far more than I ever enjoyed going to a giant stadium theatre with an enormous wall of super crisp imagery at 4x the price.
Real Imax is pretty magical. The screen is big and with the seating at a crazy steep incline, the screen is also super close. I have fond memories of seend LotR and Matrix movies in Imax. The problem is that there is a lot of fake bullshit Imax that really dillutes the brand. Real Imax requires a super specific specialized build out that probably doesn’t make economic sense in 99% of cases. Whatever “Imax” they have at your local mall is a cheap retrofit of a normal theater and really not worth the upcharge.
Pacific Science Center in Seattle stopped showing regular commercial films recently so I think I would have to travel to LA to see a real Imax screening, which is where I’d have to concede that it’s not worth it.

It’s good for a spectacle like Dune. Not sure that it made any difference on Odyssey.

Meh. I have to travel 8 hours across the Canadian prairie to get to an IMAX theater. It ain’t happening. Don’t need it anyway if the movie is good without it. The Odyssey was good without IMAX, so the IMAX call isn’t really as strong as the Sirens.
