Fan of breaking echo chambers by being devils advocate. Other than that, centrist. As in in USA I’d be considered left.

Oi, hands off rounded shit, I love it. It looks smooth and organic and is pretty great!

Animation is 50/50. If it’s there as a tasteful addition, sure. If it’s there to help accessibility, sure. If it actively hinders my ability to use stuff, takes long or is required for stuff to work, GTFO.

    1. What you think you can do matters as much as what you can actually do. All in all, when trying to sell a pen, you try to sell the need for a pen. Well, people already got sold idea of ICE cars being an easy fix.
    2. Yeah, doesn’t challenge my point. They are common. When someones says they own normal car, they most probably mean ICE. Inertia at work.

And about 5 - that’s why I mentioned that hybrids don’t deal with that, and that it actually boosts their sales. People I know balk at the idea of full EV, but are so-so against or for hybrids.

And thanks for propagating healthy discussion place. ^^

All in all what actually stops ICE from going the way of the dodo is mostly how much they’re “real” cars in our mind, and subjective preferences. Well, and pricetag. That’s also IMO why hybrids are becoming so common today - they bridge the gap.

  • Gonna get hit with dislikes but whatever.

    1. Lower complexity - even the more advanced models can be fixed by common folk, assuming quite a lot of stubborness.
    2. Commonality. They are everywhere, are cheaper, and are what you think of when someone says “car”.
    3. Preferences. I refuse to drive automatic transmission, because I find manual a lot more comfy and fun. A lot of folk think the same about ICE. From the sound they make to how they behave.
    4. Lack of infrastructure / Fear of lack of infrastructure. First Second is common, second first is still somewhat-common. But people would die if they did actual research, don’t you know?
    5. You can grab ICE car, put a can of fuel in the back and drive to fuck-off nowhere and you’re guaranteed to be fine. EV’s are a lot more vulnerable to weird shit happening, or even their users stupidity. Does not apply to hybrids far as I know, but also hybrids are more popular.

And fully subjectively - I love ICE cars. They purr, handling them feels nice, there’s a feeling of connecting with a machine. I only drove hybrids on the electric side of things and it was an…eerie experience. Felt more like operating a trolley I guess? It was interesting and I am still fascinated by them just…it’s deffo not anywhere near similiar experience except for the “get pushed forward in metal can” part.

  • “Adult stuff” and “you’ll understand when you’re older” for me were mostly blank stand-ins for “this is how it is”. Mostly connected to questions too tiresome to be answered properly at the time, questions on the nature of culture etc.

Thankfully, morality questions never got such answers when I was raised xD

But when an LLM adds more to the conversation than the average poster

You forgot key ingredient and what sparked the comment chain - under slop post. Post something normal and folk may respond differently. Post slop, get hit with anti-slop sticker as caution for others and ignored.

  • Not who you responded to but had similiar moments. Path of least resistance. Some tasks lock me to all hell, so if these are put before with some consequence if I fail, rather than doing them, I start working on mitigatign the incoming consequence.

From adult life: Washing dishes is hard for me. Not washing dishes causes dirty, rotting sink. So I limited myself to one plate, one bowl etc. in an effort of limiting consequences. If I don’t manage to wash the dishes, worst case scenario I have very limited amount of stuff rotting, which is also easier to clean up when I manage to get to it.

Can see it in op example: Doing homework is almost impossible, leaving out friends sucks, limit friends to lessen the impact of not doing homework.

Nevermind that children would have access to a vending machine.

Just like they have access to scissors. Yet we teach children what danger they carry and expect them - literal humans with stunted ability to foresee consequences - to behave safely with them. Which they do with some edge cases.

Main difference between scissors and alcohol is we restrict people with said stunted ability to foresee from accessimg it, because it’s use is nuanced and requires one to be fully responsible for themself. And we assume that an adult person is responsible for themself. Otherwise we ahould not sell knives, cars, allow hiking, bar windows by default…

Stop offloading thinking to others and claim consequences of your own actions.
