I told her we were going to get married, and all she could talk about was frogs.
She said there’s these hills where it’s hot and rains all the time, and in the rainforests there are these very tall trees and right in the top branches of the trees there are these like great big flowers called . . . bromeliads, I think, and water gets into the flowers and makes little pools and there’s a type of frog that lays eggs in the pools and tadpoles hatch and grow into new frogs and these little frogs live their whole lives in the flowers right at the top of the trees and don’t even know about the ground, and once you know the world is full of things like that, your life is never the same.

politics @lemmy.world•“They really did screw Bernie”: Here's what 2016 can teach Democrats today
4·11 days agoIn 2016 they had a coordinated and clear effort to undermine the election and get Hilary in the primary over Bernie. Trump won.
In 2024 they all agreed to not challenge Biden despite serious concerns the ones in the know must have had.
Thats twice now they rolled out the red carpet for trump and in both cases it was to make damn sure their preferred candidate won the primary voters be damned.
It really should be brought up each election because it seems like they really want to keep doing it.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's something that you used to consider “cheap” that you can’t afford now?
3·12 days agoMy wife and I went out this year and the bill was $200 for a sit down Italian in our suburban town. I don’t even like Italian.
We did a tiki lounge more recently in the city and it was $150.
These are nicer ish places but like, that’s a lot.
You’ve heard of jumbo olives though right?

But it eats this weed that’s like everywhere that nothing else can eat
Wouldn’t that like, over populate and dominate the world?
Weirdly? Only on paper.

In universe the holodeck generates a certain kind of matter that can’t leave the holodeck. So your jizz goes into the holomatter lady who is then presumably disinterested atom by atom just like a teleporter. So your jizz gets dissolved into the ether.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Did the Reich...sorry Right understand that Colbert was making fun of them on the Colbert Report?
21·19 days agoI don’t think there is any question that it was obvious to everyone. I was a kid in a conservative household and got it. And I distinctly recall there being a mad magazine bit about Colbert before I was even in high school. So that implies the joke was widely understood by the child aimed reading audience of Mad Magazine.

Technology@lemmy.world•Devastated father says his 9-year-old son spent $118,000 on YouTube ad campaigns for his Minecraft channel using a company credit card — bill racked up in just three weeks was supposed to be one $20English
7·22 days agoThis post is making me realize the position I’m in and how I got here.
My seven year old has my old switch, and uses that account. He always asks before buying anything and has never bought anything without permission. But he uses my Nintendo account, which is linked to my PayPal, which is linked to my credit card.
This card used to have something like $7000 limit. Last I checked though it’s at 32k limit. I should probably set some kind of spending limit just in case on this setup.

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•The irony of arguing with someone who read about it in a history book vs. you having lived it
7·23 days agoI distinctly remember hearing:
There were rooftop cheers from a Muslim community in New Jersey.
There was cheering in Gaza.
That rooftop thing was a continual news cycle item for weeks. I recall it being debunked but none of the details.
I remember when he stepped on a lego and it hurt so bad he jumped up and down and hopped on one foot right into an intimate massage parlor and his credit card fell out of his pocket and he paid to exploit sex traffic victims.
Good times. What a nanny set of circumstances.

Am lawyer.
We have basically three murders:
An intentional killing with Malice aforethought or premeditation as you put it.
An intentional killing in the Heat of passion lacking the premeditation.
An unintentional killing, manslaughter.
In Tennessee the middle on is called intentional manslaughter and that’s the one at play.
There are certainly cases where the jury has concluded at some point between bullet one and bukket six you formed the premeditation required.
