If I didn’t live in the market of one of the teams (ie it wasn’t on broadcast tv for me) I wouldn’t be paying for Netflix to watch the NFL today. In which case I’d watch the NBA instead. Personally the Christmas NFL games feel pointless. Like it’s obviously just NFL greed (they’re getting a bundle from Netflix) and so far it’s nothing impressive imo.

Will that change under Trump?English111·7 months agoYou have to be huffing some major copium if you think he’s going to help disabled people make more money. He helped prevent (via one of his appointed judged) people getting overtime pay if you make more than $30k. Plus Project 2025 calls for stripping disability and other protections from individuals with disabilities. So no he isn’t going to do anything for the disabled community except make our lives worse.
Ivy Raven@midwest.socialto Ask Autistic People@lemmy.autism.place•Favorite video game company?English1·8 months agoFeel like all my favorites fell off pretty hard. Was a big fan of Blizzard from Starcraft and Warcraft 3 which led into World of Warcraft. Still play WoW, but Blizzard as a company lost any love I had after all their shitty doings outside the game.
Bungie is a similar story. Halo was awesome and the Destiny universe used to have a choke hold on me due to the lore alone. But their CEO is a piece of shit and their decisions to force playtime over fun or enjoyable content has seen me distance myself from their stuff to a severe degree.
I grew up with an SNES and used to be a huge Nintendo fan, but again eh. The Switch I found to be bleh. And as a huge Legend of Zelda fan their moving the series into a stamina meter thing turned me off.
Know it sounds like I hate or am down on gaming. I’m really not. Just hyper aware of the behind the scenes BS and has killed a lot of video game hype for me. I still play WoW and enjoy it. I still play a little Destiny 2 and kind of enjoy myself when I do. But my golden age of gaming has passed me by. Everything now is about battle passes, gatcha mechanics, pay shops etc and feels like only Soulslikes deliver a full game. Sadly I’m too crappy to play those lol
Ivy Raven@midwest.socialto Ask Autistic People@lemmy.autism.place•Do you do things you regret?English3·9 months agoOh for sure. I’ll hyper focus on something and become obsessed with it. Then when I pull the trigger on it the fear that I’ve made a poor choice will begin to build. I’m kind of dealing with that with my return to Warhammer 40,000 (40k is the common abbreviation). Sucks because nothing wrong with my choice persay but I also want to do this other stuff instead. Literally debated for about two months before making the choice and still feel like I picked wrong. Oh well -_-

Ivy Raven@midwest.socialto Ask Autistic People@lemmy.autism.place•Anybody read comic books?English2·9 months agoNever heard of that. Is it a reader? My issue is that the text and such is just tiny on PDFs. I had the same issue reading e-books for school. It’s just easier and more accessible for me to read the physical medium. But the cost of it keeps me out of reading them. Do have a bunch of PDF comics from Humble Bundle I need to try to read xD
Ivy Raven@midwest.socialto Ask Autistic People@lemmy.autism.place•Anybody read comic books?English4·9 months agoI love comics, and manga, but they’re hard for me to read due to the cost. Digital comic bundles are great but then I run afoul of my issue with reading PDFs (it’s really hard for me to read digital comics/books like borderline impossible for me).
Mostly I was reading Marvel with a little DC. Tried to stick to offbrand stuff in those lines instead of the X-Men, Avengers, or Batman etc.

Ivy Raven@midwest.socialto NFL@lemmy.world•Netflix gets the NFL: Three-year deal starts this season on Christmas1·1 year agoYeah that’s pretty ridiculous. In the KC market the Royals (MLB) are only on Fox Sports (in some like KC specific package), Chiefs are on broadcast tv, Sporting (MLS) is only on Apple TV I think now. We have no NHL or NBA team but those are all on various cable channels and/or ESPN plus.
More and more stuff is forced onto cable (like almost all of March Madness was only on cable tv). And of course all the stuff split out onto streaming stuff. It’s such a shitshow and only getting worse.
Ivy Raven@midwest.socialto NFL@lemmy.world•Netflix gets the NFL: Three-year deal starts this season on Christmas1·1 year agoIn the Kansas City market you get one game a week and it’s a random game on Saturdays. Not really interested in the MLB but it’s so ridiculous to me that if I was I’d have to get like 3 different subscriptions. But we don’t get anything but golf, nascar, and NFL in this market on TV. And the rare NBA game around Christmas and then some of the finals stuff.
Ivy Raven@midwest.socialto NFL@lemmy.world•Netflix gets the NFL: Three-year deal starts this season on Christmas7·1 year agoHave to make it impossible to watch like MLB, MLS, NHL or NBA.
Ivy Raven@midwest.socialto NFL@lemmy.world•Why the Chiefs and Royals couldn’t convince Kansas City voters to foot the bill for their stadiums3·1 year agoThe TV thing was something I mentioned to my mom. Like it’s really hard to give a shit about the Royals, or baseball in general, because you can’t watch any games without some crazy cable package. Add in that the Royals are trash most of the time and it’s an even harder sell.
The Chiefs are a solid element and the TV part helps a lot. Of course winning helps a lot too. Because I remember the bad years but they were still at least on TV (usually).

And leave the lid open most of the time. It seems to keep humidity down and the smell went away almost instantly.
You see brain drain when educated people leave an area. So does this lead to brain rot?
Ivy Raven@midwest.socialto NFL@lemmy.world•One killed, nine (update - 22) hurt in Chiefs parade shooting2·1 year agoSure someone could bring in a knife and stab people. But the culture around guns (toxic masculinity, using violence as a means to win an argument, etc) are all problems. And at this point the guns are definitely the main problem. We can look at celebrations in other locales and the rates of violence are lower. And most other ‘first world countries’ have stricter rules/regulations on firearms. Trying to act like guns are part of the problem is just burying ones head in the sand. Sure other factors play into the violence, but when you can easily get a firearm and wish to hurt others it’s a lot easier than pulling out a kitchen knife.
Ivy Raven@midwest.socialto NFL@lemmy.world•One killed, nine (update - 22) hurt in Chiefs parade shooting181·1 year agoThat’s my question too. The cops keep talking about how they had 800~ various law enforcement individuals on hand and it still happened. Guns are a blight. Like this was a huge day for KC and the weather is beautiful, but now it’s just another shooting incident.

Ivy Raven@midwest.socialto Technology@beehaw.org•AI is modeling David Attenborough and the filmmaker isn’t happy26·2 years agoMaybe a cynical outlook, but ‘AI’ becoming such a big deal is only going to serve as a means to take out the human element. Why have a person narrate or write your nature show when you can have ‘AI’ mimic a known quantity.
Indeed it is. I’ve said before in other posts that it’s insane how you can’t watch local sports without a cable plan unless you watch the NFL. And the NFL is moving in that direction too though the only positive is that if the team is in your local market for the time being you can still see it on broadcast TV unlike the MLB. For me at least I’m not incentivized to pay for every subscription service to get access to games. Nor am I going to pay that insane $80 a month Hulu w/ TV, Sling, etc bullshit that’s just cable TV but streamed.
