Somehow that avoids everything that actually makes TPOT TPOT to me (except the links to Rationalism and EA, but then you have to be aware of those).
Like the (scientific) racism.

Lemmy’s got some cool communities like !truecomics@midwest.social that don’t exist on Reddit, so I’m happy
The founder is Dutch, it’s hosted in Finland, and the hosting company is German
those who fought against it
Did they do more than just vote?
Reminds me of the “make an angry child laugh” trick. Which I absolutely loathed as a child, because it worked but it also wasn’t taking my emotions seriously.

I think you just killed ten French people
Seems like this new one is only for the US though, so it’s not a complete replacement
Like a person living in a tent made from hide and bones
Nah, he’s just a film buff
It’s only uncomfortable if you make it uncomfortable, but if you’re all adults it doesn’t have to be. Maybe it helps to grow up in a less puritanical country than the US though.
The Fifth Element (1997)
Hey now, they also eat fermented shark
I have no idea why they decided to attack renewable energy
Huh? The comic is complaining nerds are wasting adulthood on speedrunning and drawing comics instead of doing research that improves the world (like renewable energy).
The lemmy.world thread reminds me of a similar “racism on the fediverse” thread, and the occasional thread about misogyny (dismissive, uninterested and/or personally offended)
I didn’t think they’d continue without the original leads, I wonder how they handle it
I wonder if a news community with a “no mentioning the US” rule would work. Not out of any hate, just as something arbitrary like “don’t use the letter E”.
It’s hosted in Finland, by a German company, and has Dutch admins. Was that your point?
Edit: bonus, the Lemmy devs get paid from a Dutch grant and the ones whose nationality I know are not from the US
… the average Westerner also has access to the internet? At most, maybe it excludes those who don’t speak English
Tons of people speak English as a second language, on the internet
There’s a place for it imo, as a response to cliché boomer opinions
