8·26 days agoAn arborist might be more willing to climb that high than a handyman.
We have several different native species here that all tend to hybridize. About six different species last I looked.
They look like soft little tufts, what a lie!
Interesting! They bloomed months ago where I am. The tunas are almost fully ripe this time of year.

3·1 month agoIt was removed on purpose to fix sign visibility. If they knew it was important, they might have just moved the sign instead. The picture makes it look large enough that you might not notice the topiary from the ground.
I used to have doubts about adding pasta water before I tried it, but it makes such a huge difference.

My biggest advice is to wait a year before you make any major changes. Things like how much sun an area gets will change throughout the year as the sun moves, or as nearby trees drop their leaves or grow them back.
As for specific plants, start by learning about what’s in your area that does well. Apps like iNaturalist are decent at helping identify plants (and bugs and animals) that you see both in nature and in other people’s gardens. You can then research those plants to see if they’re native to your area or not.
For tools, buy what you need when you need it. A shovel is good for planting new plants, but not as necessary for daily maintenance.
The lawn will be a similar process. See what pops up on its own. If you like it, research to see if it’s native or invasive.
And when you’re interested in something it’s piqued. Aren’t homonyms fun?
Doesn’t seem like it’s been very thoroughly researched. Better safe than sorry.

Antibiotics have a similar effect. Some? All? Who knows.
I don’t see any standing water. I would start with a dehumidifier.

Technology@lemmy.world•Vibe coding has turned senior devs into ‘AI babysitters,’ but they say it’s worth it | TechCrunchEnglish
121·2 months agoVibe coding is asking gpt for code, copying it into your code environment, then telling gpt about any errors or issues. The problem is that it actually works a significant amount of the time, let’s be generous and say 80%. Another 15% of the time it cannot solve a problem itself. And finally the worst possible outcome is the last 5%, where it creates a seemingly working solution that actually breaks on edge cases or has potential security issues.
Chocolate ice cream and vanilla with chocolate syrup are entirely different. You can buy vanilla with chocolate syrup swirls, but it’s not as good as drenching it yourself.
You missed a reference to an even better joke.
I’ve had good luck “soaking” chickpeas for only an hour. Add to a pot with a pinch of baking soda (sodium bicarbonate). Bring to a boil, turn off the heat, and cover. Let sit for an hour. Drain and cook as if they soaked overnight.
The amount of baking soda takes some trial and error. Not enough and they won’t cook through, too much and they’ll turn to mush.

18·3 months agoSleeping sickness – formally known as human African trypanosomiasis (HAT) – is a parasitic disease transmitted by the bite of the tsetse fly.
I don’t know how new this information is, though.

Aren’t tomatillos a completely different plant than just unripe tomatoes?
