  • In the context of the article, I can only assume your point was “healthy food is expensive, that’s why people are obese”.

I don’t think it’s helpful to have a response like, “but have the poors tried eating less?”

No, my response was that obese people eating less will leave them with more money and less health issues. Eating canned/frozen vegetables is both less expensive and healthier than premade foods, and lasts longer so you can take fewer trips, saving more money.

Btw, kudos for deleting that other post! I’m glad you decided to actually read my post.

  • it’s nasty and bad for you.

Example number one. I agree it’s not as tasty as fresh, but often times the canned and frozen veggies have MORE vitamins and minerals than fresh, simply because the fresh one has had more time to break down.

most of it is loaded with sodium preservatives

You can just look at the labels and see that isn’t true. Hell, you don’t even need to get up, just check out Walmart brand canned or veggies online and look at the label.

    and other chemicals.

Everything is a chemical. This is a meaningless propaganda phrase from the organic food playbook. You are literally proving my point.

is it better than not eating vegetables at all? sure

Uhhh yeah, if you can’t afford fresh vegetables, or its not available near you, eating frozen/jarred/canned is absolutely fine. It’s not bad for you in any way, and far superior to premade crap.

i was SHOCKED in college when I found out vegetables can taste good, instead of being disgusting mushy nastiness.

It’s nice to hear that you have the option of fresh fruits and veggies. I also take that for granted, but its important to remember many people don’t have that option. And they are just as susceptible to propaganda as you, so they don’t buy frozen or canned vegetables because it’s vaguely “bad for you” somehow in some undefined way. And they end up getting obese because they eat stuff that’s much worse.

  • We know that certain foods, particularly animal products, especially cheaper animal products, lead to cancers, heart disease, etc.

It’s very very difficult to get obese on a well balanced healthy diet composed of mostly vegetables.

But yet again we have yet another study uselessly pointing out a correlation which is unhelpful for actually solving public health issues

What do you mean? This is very helpful. It says that if you want to reduce cancer incidence, you should work to decrease obesity. If we only did science that produced direct results that require zero political action to be effective, no science would get done.

Besides, its not as if it’s a giant mystery what causes the obesity epidemic, it’s just that undoing that would mean some massive regulation in the food industry, changes to zoning, increases in public funding and a dozen other areas, and other things that aren’t a mystery, but are very politically unpopular.

continues to encourage the passing of the blame to those in society who have the least responsibility for their situation.

The paper absolutely does not say “Don’t want cancer? Don’t be a fatty!”. The article does do, but that’s not the fault of the researchers.

  • Also, green isn’t a colour found in fur. So there really isn’t a way there can be a green mammal. Only two types of melanin exist in mammals, so we’re stuck with shares of white, brown and light-brown-but-we-call-it-orange.

Birds get to cheat with crafty structural colours, but that doesn’t work for fur. So alas, no green, blue, red or iridescence in mammals.

  • Regular news reporting on military exercises is pretty much useless. The news, and most lay people, think these are sports matches where you have a fair contest to see who wins. That’s not the point. The point is to learn. And you don’t learn shit by winning.

So pretty much all western military exercises start from a huge disadvantage, usually putting an unprepared force against a numerically and materially superior red team.

The blue team will always lose, because there the point. It simulates the worst case scenarios, to learn from them. “What if Russia comes at us with months of preptime and we only have our backpacks?” will teach you what to put in your backpacks to do better. “What if there are 20 of them and 5 of us” will teach you how to prepare for a tough fight, because you already know how to win an easy fight.

If the blue team wins consistently at an exercise, it’s a useless waste of time and money.

  • “class 4” is just the highest class, being over 500mw. Technically, the experimental lasers they use on warships are class 4 lasers.

Most countries don’t restrict owning them, but they do restrict selling them. When you have one, it’s kinda like owning a kitchen knife, perfectly legal, but as soon as you do dumb shit with it, thats still on you.

And class 4 lasers make it VERY easy to do dumb shit.
