So the fact that I occasionally get ads in Spanish, despite being a native English speaker in a mainly English-speaking country, means I’m doing something right?
In case you can’t tell, I’m passionate about rationality and critical thinking.

Ugh, the pro-ICE propaganda reeks. The tone of this article makes me feel like I need a shower.

I was thinking about this just the other day. There’s a popular market in my home state, one I’ve been going to since childhood. It’s a single store, not a chain, and it’s almost always packed. I’ve never seen nor heard a single ad for it in my life. Naturally, that makes me like the place even more.

Some people like to say that nobody’s immune to advertising. Maybe so, but there are definitely some of us who aren’t as affected by it. When most ads you see are for things you’d never buy anyway, all the crap kind of blends together.
For me, no amount of fast food ads, car ads, vacation ads, etc. are going to have any meaningful effect. I already don’t buy fast food, don’t purchase new cars (and if I’m shopping used, there are certain criteria that matter far more than a brand or dealership), and am way too poor to take a vacation. Yet, the ads persist.
Even if I weren’t muting and skipping them at every chance, you can’t get blood from a stone. End stage capitalism, man. Can’t spend money I don’t have!
It reminds me of that episode of Archer where he finds a Japanese guy abandoned on an island since WWII.

Ooh, have a link so I can see what it looks like?
I’ve been using the metal ones for years, but only recently found a way to clean them. I hold them with pliers and use a small blowtorch (the same one I use for heating resins.) It burns up the residue surprisingly quickly. It does make a bit of a smell, and since the metal gets super hot I’d recommend doing it over a sink for safety, but hey, it works.

I went on a date with a guy who used these. Problem is, I use a metal mesh filter on my piece. When he went to light my pipe, the metal reacted to the electric charge and popped out, scattering burning weed around the floor.
Yeah, no, I’ll stick to regular lighters, thanks.

Not sure if you’re looking for just quizzes for fun or to specifically improve your geography knowledge. But if you’re working on the latter, may I suggest Seterra? I set out last year to learn to label every country on the globe, and the quizzes on there were very helpful toward that goal. I also used it to learn all the flags. It’s pretty nifty.
If you’re just playing for fun and like the style on Sporcle, feel free to disregard. But in the off chance you’re a geography nerd too, you might it.
To be clear, I’m not being paid to support it or anything. I’m just a fan.

I didn’t expect to start my day with a potato-rorschach test.
Somebody else already said they see poodles, and now I can’t unsee it. So in order to answer your question more organically, I decided to flip the image upside down and try again.

on the left side, a chef carrying a dish under one of those dome lids. On the right side, I see a Disney-esque cartoon character with frizzy pigtails (like the main character from the kids’ Youtube channel, Gracie’s Corner), in a puffy dress, either leaning toward the chef or blowing a kiss toward them.
This is a fun game. What does everyone else see?

Or like one of those people who is two people genetically.
Chimeras are fascinating.
You’re absolutely right, too. A member of my polycule is in a triad that co-parents a child. The little girl has two moms and a dad, and that is the only life she’s ever known. I’d be jealous of their situation if they weren’t living in Florida.

I’m grateful that, when she was pregnant, my sister-in-law insisted that anyone who planned to interact with her kids got the MMR booster beforehand. I have no idea when my last booster was before that, but with all this shit going down I can feel comfortable knowing I was boosted within the last decade.

I am genuinely impressed by my local library’s collection of DVDs. Rows upon rows upon rows. I just went the other day and was overwhelmed, in a good way.
I still sail the high seas for things I can’t find elsewhere, but boy is it nice to pop a free DVD into my Playstation without the hassle of transferring files.

The page keeps returning an error for me. In case the site is glitching out for anyone else - archive link
As to the topic, I’ve never been to an Alamo Drafthouse (they don’t exist in my area), but wow, it sounds like they’re shooting themselves in the foot.
Apparently his dad “took” his groupies for him because he was too young. He’d also be in the dressing room while his older brothers had sex. His childhood was truly robbed from him.
Fungi create a network for sharing information between plants, so yes, absolutely!
In fact, one could probably argue that fungi is social media for plants, in that it is literally their medium.

In the 90s … users being distracted by their phones
Do you have a source for that? Cell phones were rare in the 90s. Even then, they weren’t “smart phones” by any sense - they were just used for talking. No text, no apps, no games. Cell phones didn’t become common distractions until the early 00s.

He literally has a “safe space” the way South Park imagined it? Poor Butters, going through all his shitty news just to find the rare, delusional comment in Trump’s favor.

This is probably the 4th or 5th post I’ve seen on Lemmy about this poll this week. Each time I checked the results, they were the same (except for the very first one I saw, which was different by only one percentage point.) The answer’s pretty clear.
Although I’m pretty sure it’s a PR stunt at this point, I do appreciate that DDG asked its users at all. Every other company seems to be like, “We’re gonna make you use AI, regardless of whether you want to or not. Suck it up!”
Not spam per se, but there does seem to be a sharp uptick in brand new accounts making tons of posts and getting banned. It seems every day I see numerous posts made by users that are already banned by whatever community they posted in (by the time I see them.) Mods must be working overtime.
