I embarrassed the COO of a large organization once in front of approximately half of that organization’s management. Managed to get away with it. So yes, I can say with some certainty that being able to stand up and freely express yourself is character building and, frankly, fucking awesome.
What they mean is normally when something isn’t being paid for, you are the actual product. It’s why people should never use free password managers, for instance.
Proton may be unique in that the free tier might actually be exactly what it says it is: A product for you. Not a product OF you.

I treat AI the same way I’ve always treated Google: WITH ABSOLUTE DISDAIN Using them as a shove in the right direction and for research purposes to supplement research already being done. ChatGPT for instance is actually pretty decent at figuring out vaguely defined things if worked through. Is it perfect? Hell no. It can help narrow down the options though.

I do that shit when I have a web interview. Put up a guitar just visible in the camera, a small bookshelf, a floor lamp, make sure my tennis bag is visible despite not playing in ages…
Whether they realize it or not, people do take this stuff in. Not sure why some algorithm based on these very same interviews wouldn’t do the same.
Varies on where I’m at. One thing I can do no matter where I happen to be is allow my body to lose its tension. This is a learned skill. Focus your mind on preferably a major muscle to start, and just will it to begin relaxing. I like imagining I’m becoming more liquid and that the stress I’m holding is draining away. It’s a lighter, though similar, feeling you get when your body is just exhausted and you lay down.

I feel combining this with @PerogiBoi@lemmy.ca likely creates a fairly accurate sense for the place.
India is, well…despite their historical advances in medicine and continued strong cultural fascination with academia, at some point they became nothing but call centers, distribution points, and scam centers. There is certainly more to India, though when I think of hacking, I think of China and Russia. When I think of scams, unfortunately India is top of the list.
So look, guys, it’s reaaaally easy:
If it isn’t mandated, regulated, and enforced by law, assume the corporation is lying.
Bonus Wisdom Save: If a corp says you should do something, strongly consider doing the opposite.
Worked in retail for awhile. Got promoted to lower rung management. Saw the writing on the wall and positioned myself repeatedly in front of my team and simultaneously out of the way of blame when shit hit. Lost three front end leads in four months, each the most experienced. Didn’t get asked a single question.
Course I was the one who reassured them that they could do better, asked them why they were still working there when they were clearly unhappy, gave them extra breaks when they felt overwhelmed, and reported dumb shit from corporate when it affected them, even if Upper didn’t want to say anything. Like the hour cuts and hiring freeze, typical of retail.
My team was the most efficient and well organized. I taught each of them how to handle and de-escalate situations, and what to actually look out for with respect to fraud and scams. They knew they could call me for any issue and tried like hell to handle it themselves. Other team leads came to me rather than go to another manager. This isn’t me being amazing, tbh I felt it was because I followed through on things, not because I was any better than anyone. If you say you’ll do something, keep that word.
If there is even a single person in a position of leadership reading this I hope you take note. A business cannot run without a strong and enabled team. It might walk, it will not run. We ALL know you can pay more and treat people better, so fucking do it.
I think, probably…spending many hours over a few weeks helping people experience and love Journey after I got my White Robe. Twirling around on the sand dunes, exploring strange places, avoiding danger, and finally seeing them pass through that mountain.
For me every time someone stuck it out added to the memories and I hope each of them remembers that chirpy white robed player who made the game just a little more fun.
