No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Do you think that Trump is being blackmailed?
20·14 days agoDoes it even matter? Even if you remove everything about Epstein and Iran from the conversation, he is still objectively a shitty person and one of the most incompetent and self serving people to hold high office in a country that elects its leaders.
You would probably have to go back 100 years to find someone that is the head of state in a country that is a major player on the world stage to find someone that is as unfit for the job as Trump.

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•That feeling when you convince everyone, your companies are worth 25x their annual revenue, for the fourth time
3·23 days agoIt really does amaze me how so many people give him the time of day. I’m not sure his presence in any venture has been a net positive for them at the end of the day.
Every company he has ever touched succeeded at what they were doing despite his constant fuckery.

Technology@lemmy.world•400+ Arch Linux AUR Packages Compromised in a Supply Chain Attack Deploying InfostealersEnglish
3·23 days agoProbably not. The article says that most of it seems to have come from orphaned stuff in the AUR that the threat actors took ownership of via the legit process, then modified to pull down malicious NPM packages when someone went to install them.
So if your Discord package is well maintained you probably have nothing to worry about.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•Cellphones went from cool form factor mini computers to mandatory personal identification and spying devices
11·24 days agoWhen the subject comes up I have often said that cell phones are what we avoided in the PC space when the IBM BIOS was reverse engineered.
It has been a disappointment to me that so many smart otherwise tech literate people have seemed to not be able to see the tech industry, and others, putting the digital noose around out necks with smart phones.
We are not too far away from entire brick and mortar businesses being off limits to someone whose only smart phone is not an iPhone and does not pass Googles Play Services Safetynet checks for an app and the only method to pay they have being cash or a physical credit card. That is wild, and something that should worry nearly everyone that has a vested interest in being able to live their lives without being under the thumbs of private corporate interests if they so choose.
And that is before even getting into the even more concerning parts of modern phones which take all of the above and make it scary by replacing private corporate interests with governments.
Nothing good ever comes from getting in a position where you have to interact with, or obey, another party and they get to set all of the terms.

32·25 days agoGood. But I would like to see it go further and have a provision that allows the doctor to pass that blame on to the place they work if using that AI is being forced on them.

Authoritarianism is the more efficient governing model.
It is far more beneficial and productive to society to dump more money and research into countering the negative health outcomes of eating terribly unhealthy food than it is to try and undo entire socioeconomic models and human habits that are geared to consuming the unhealthy things.
Some people are so stupid they should be chemically castrated. Depending on them to raise a future functioning human being will fail and ultimately will be a drain on the over all system.
Some people have done such horrible things beyond a shadow of a doubt that even death is too much of a mercy. They should be kept alive and tortured mentally and physically every day until they die of natural disease processes.

politics @lemmy.world•Mike Pence says the Trump administration has ‘departed’ from conservative principles
6·1 month agoFormer Vice President Mike Pence said Sunday that President Donald Trump’s second administration has “departed” from traditional conservative principles.
Not like the first administration was any better Mike. But nice job trying to give yourself political cover for your blame in what has happened to this country over the last ~10 years. You might have done the right thing in the end, but you had a good 3.5 years before that to stiffen that back bone up and you didn’t until you saw the literal gallows sitting outside the senate offices.
So you had her grow out the hair, you filmed it, and then decided not to include it in the film? Missed opportunity to start a new very specific fetish.
They aren’t buying the ads to convince you to buy it anytime soon. They are buying the ads to plant the seed of the link to their brand with whatever the thing is. That way in the future when you have long forgot about the ad and you are looking for bone broth you might buy theirs because it looks familiar even if you don’t know why. This is a time tested process that absolutely works.
If you think you are immune to it then you are fooling yourself and are half way to being the perfect little consumer that they want.
