  • Still not enough content. I already feel the slow down in activities. I’m in a weird spot rn. I go back to reddit because there’s more interesting stuff to see, but the official apps is so bad, that I come back here. Also People here seems more intelligent on avg.

I like lemmy because there is no ads and no gold and premium stupid stuff like NFTs and 50$ awards. I liked the awards ideas ,but damn paying up to 100$ for digital emojis that everyone will forget in a day?

The big downside is the lack of embedded videos. Of course videos takes a lot of server power compared to text. But I hope we find a way to implement this in the future.

I think we should have a public board that shows the instance hardware spec and the finance. So we can set donations goals to upgrade servers or keep them afloat.

  • What is the best filesystem for archive ? BTRFS, ZFS, ReFS?

How will quantum computer affect your field ?

What is the 2023 bottleneck ?

IMHO , it’s permanent storage . I remember in 2005 up to 2010, we all wanted the fastest CPU , more GHz , more cores ,etc. the industry gives us that . Then during the last decade , we all wanted a more powerful GPU, more core ,more memory ,more Mhz. We also craved faster internet connection ,now we have optical fiber with 3.5Gb/sec in home for 120$/month .(impossible to think in 2014)

Nowadays , I have the impression that permanent storage is lagging behind . With the new medias being in 8K, video games storing average 100Gb and what not, we regularly move around dozens of Gb, even as casual users .

    1. To make lemmy more interesting to new users coming from reddit. I’m a copycat. I use what worked before. I want lemmy to keep its new user after the blackout.

2.Stolen from stock images on google. I just screenshot the images from random google image searches. If that cause problem, I will get free images later. I just wanted to make the c/ more attractive very fast.I created the community on my job in 10 seconds. Couldn’t wait, this whole lemmy experience is fascinating.

    1. I would like to moderate. But I have to think a lot about rules and ethic of mods. I have been subject of mods powertrip and I want to create mechanisms to counter balance mods power. I did not like reddit because contrary to what some thinks, it is not democratic. I think we should have a mod system similar to IRL with jury, right to appeal and check and balance on moderator. Also sub rules that can be changed by vote. And mods that can be changed by votes. I understand the importance of mod to filter hate and ToS problems, but I hate mod powertriping and tribalism. I was a mod on a very small leftist political party with less than 40 members. I don’t think that counts.
