USA population in 2024: ~341 million (according to the US census)
Trump votes in 2024: ~77 million (according to Wikipedia)
That’s only about ~22% or a little over 1/5th of the country that voted for him.

2·2 days agoI wonder if short hops in electric propeller planes are gonna take over everything in a few years. Like it will be the cheapest option for any trip under about 800 miles. Cheaper than driving, even in an electric car. A few Canadian companies are already doing this with seaplanes, where most of the trips are under 30 minutes anyway.
This tech is mature, in the US we’re just waiting on the FAA to certify it.

41·2 days agoYes. Thank you.
The treaty was certainly fucked up, and also, the Nazis used that as propaganda to enflame their base with the “stab-in-the-back” myth.
Also, we can keep playing this nationalists game. One could also argue that France had “legitimate reasons” for being so punitive in the treaty, like, for instance, how they didn’t start WWI.

As an American, it seems to me that you appear to have the economic beliefs of a middle class conservative American (“these people’s lives suck because they are lazy! How dare they complain?”). Maybe it’s time to self-reflect.
EDIT: Doubled down in the replies lmao. Yes, pity is a common conservative emotion.

I strongly disagree. My life is already pretty fucked up and doesn’t seem like it’ll be getting better without some massive political changes.

2·4 days agoI’m not a baker. I can cook, but I do not bake.
OK, here’s my unpopular opinion: cooking and baking aren’t that different, and the differences between them are massively overstated. If you can follow a savory meat dish recipe that spends time in the oven, you can make a cake.
I’ve worked in restaurants and as a pastry chef. It’s all the same fundamentals. People say baking has to be “more precise” and I don’t even think that’s true. Plenty of savory sauces and meat dishes require just as much, if not more, precision as baking.
I mean this to be encouraging. I hear from a lot of talented cooks that they don’t bake and I’m always like but… you could? You’re just inexperienced at it. But a passionate cook is also a passionate baker.
I think part of the problem is that in order to achieve such high speeds, high speed rail lines have to be really, really straight, and as flat as possible. Older railroad right-of-ways are often too twisty, curvy, and hilly. So, sadly it’s not just an issue of new tracks & trainsets, in some cases there will need to be new routes.
At least, this has been an issue for Amtrak here in the USA. Their new Acela trains are pretty fast, but most of the line between Boston/NYC/DC was laid out in the 19th century. So it can only get up to its full speed on short sections of the track.

As a former professional baker, nah.
Most of these home bakers talking about how “precise” their baking is aren’t actually that precise. They:
Cooking and baking aren’t that different, there are hard and fast rules in both, but also if you’re good at one, you’re also good at the other, because they are the same thing. Can you follow a recipe that involves cooking meat in the oven? Then guess what? You can also bake a cake. I’m sorry to be the bearer of good news
