Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Cliparr - Create clips from your personal media serverEnglish
1·6 days agoThanks, this is good to know. I’m in the process of upgrading my media setup and am playing around with Jellyfin to replace Plex. I’ve been reluctant to commit since Plex is easy and I have a lifetime pass, but this data collection is a great reason to finally be done with Plex

World News@lemmy.world•Uproar in Germany over law requiring men get military approval for long stays abroadEnglish
5·15 days agoNot quite, this particular paragraph was identical in the cold war era but the other paragraphs, mainly defining when it is in effect and when not, were changed. This made the law applicable since January 1st of this year. So previously this rule was only applicable during war or “conflicting times” and now it always is.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Is Switzerland expensive for American travelers?
10·27 days agoEating out is expensive, I would recommend at least Fr.150 per person per day for food. That should cover 2-3 meals and a coffee, sweet treat, etc.
In Europe it’s normal that supermarket prices are significantly cheaper than restaurants. The people preparing our food deserve a living wage.
Sure there will be some fancy ski hut waiting for someone rich or drunk enough to shell out 100k for booze, but just because it exists doesn’t mean it’s the norm.

2·28 days agoHad a quick look and it seems to be easy if I take the fridge online, that would be a deal breaker so will need to do some digging about just keeping it connected locally

1·28 days agoThe fridge has wifi and an app for all those times when you’re on the road and feel the urge to change your fridge/freezer settings. I haven’t used it yet and am hesitant to let it go online. But I’m hoping I can still connect the fridge to my wifi locally and control it that way. From there I hope If (sunny) (set freezer to -24C) ELSE (set freezer to -18C) will work.

Technology@piefed.social•Storing Solar Energy As Ice For Air ConditioningEnglish
5·28 days agoHey! I do this by setting my freezer temp to the lowest possible when my panels produce excess electricity. Then back to normal for the night, the 6C difference is enough to not use additional power until the sun comes up again.
One day I will automate this… one day

British Telly @feddit.uk•TV tonight: hit or flop? The British version of SNL is finally here
1·1 month agoInteresting, luckily my home server view won’t give Murdoch any ad revenue. The episode felt as political as any SNL episode from the US.

1·1 month agoGreat episode, I’m not the biggest SNL fan but enjoyed this episode a lot.

I love Graphene, because I seriously care about privacy. Everything works well but I also wasn’t a fan of having to find Google hardware. Second hand worked and next year I will consider the Motorola that will run Graphene.
Since you insist on Meta and Google Apps, you seem less concerned with hard privacy, so a Fairphone with e/OS could be a great choice. e/OS is nice too, I tried it for a while but found some laps in it’s privacy settings and I did not want to leak any location info to google.
If you don’t like it, you can revert to stock android, no problem.
