I’m done fiddling with software and want stuff that works without much hassle. Unraid is super easy, I am in the process of building a home server with it, similar setup to OP.
I plan on moving my media files to the server through my LAN via FreeFileSync.
Usually the only things locked behind an application are custom equalisation, and modifiable earphone buttons. You probably can even uninstall it after you’re happy with the above settings.
Waiting for phone manufacturers to integrate physical camera covers like on new laptops.
OP is already using one based on the post text.
It was my favourite of the bunch, although IMO it should’ve been two books instead. But I understand he wanted a trilogy, it being the Three Body Problem and all that.
Enjoy the ride!
While not open source, Here WeGo is also an alternative to Google. I think Here may be more focused on driving.
With bank transfers I am referring to services like Paytrail/Klarna where you authenticate with your bank, and choose which account the sum is taken from.
I think bank transfers are more popular in Northern Europe. I only use a credit card if I want additional buyer protection / insurance from my bank.
Most reviews seem to be related to the “personal backup” service, but still good to consider. I’ve only read positive things about their B2 storage on self-host communities.
Only other downside I could think if is when my catch all cant be used to send a mail or reply.
On Protonmail, I just create a new address if I need to send email from that address. Afterwards I just delete it, freeing up the address slot.
Both are fine choices depending on your requirements. The thing with external alias services, you are not in control of the addresses/domain. Catch-all addresses are essentially aliases you manage, but something like Simplelogin does have the benefit of hiding your domain name.
Spam is not a big deal on catch-all. A couple of times a year I do get a spam mail to some arbirtary address, but that’s more or less it.
Listen man they developed EddieAI in the 80s for their album covers, truly ahead of their time.
Maybe I’m just not hip anymore

Artists signed to bigger labels most likely will not get to Bandcamp. The greedy corporate suits want to control the supply of their product and imagine that letting people buy access to the actual files increases piracy. Or something like that.
I know you were against it in the post, but you could buy a CD, copy the files with a CD ripper (e.g. Exact Audio Copy) and then sell the CD second-hand if you don’t want to keep it.
Remember to also take backups of your digital music library! Preferably on two different locations, so your home burning down will not kill your collection.
They found the way you wrote “Yt-dlp and a cron job” sexually appealing, and went to havd some fun rub… uh, installing.
For trash sites (random forums, free software downloads, porn etc.) that do not get my real information, and it doesn’t matter if I lose the account, I just use a random 10 minute email site.
For anything where I input my personal information, or deem slightly more important, I use a catch-all address in Protonmail with my own domain.
It protects your data from snooping or man-in-the-middle attacks on untrusted networks. Or your internet service provider.
If both people have Syncthing installed, you can do that by sharing a folder between you.
But it is not like cloud services where you can generate a shareable link - Syncthing is mostly designed for syncing files between your own devices real-time.
I’m always advocating for Signal, but I’m worried for the time their billionaire-backing eventually runs out.
