No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•What was the first thing or video or music or whatever that was so called "pirated" from the internet? How did it happen and was the end user happy? And can you still access it?
61·30 days ago1998 - downloaded hundreds of Super Nintendo, arcade and neo geo rooms to play on an emulator. Used my university’s fast internet connection and a Zip drive to download hundreds of files. A year later got my very own ISDN line then began downloading MP3s and grainy movies. Seeing how the entertainment industry has deteriorated over the years, I don’t feel so guilty these days.

World News@lemmy.ml•Iran Rejects U.S. Narrative That It Must Adhere to Trump’s ‘Disingenuous’ Negotiation Framework
4·1 month agoI would actually prefer to see an Ancient Rome style triumph. Trump, Rubio and Hegseth paraded in chains through the streets of Tehran, in front of tens of thousands of cheering Iranians before before brought up the steps of the Temple of Cyrus the Great. There will be a speech about how the Iranian people once again persevered before the three are symbolically garrotted as the crowds fall silent.

10·2 months agoSadly true. All the tech giants either support genocide, spy on innocent citizens or socialise with billionaire paedophiles. In most cases, it’s all three things

1·2 months agoThe orange baboon in the White House definitely had this all thought out. Netanyahu rubbing his hands with glee after trapping the US in another forever war and European citizens freezing and watching living costs go up.

World News@lemmy.ml•Iran Prepared for an Existential War. How Much Are Trump and Israel Willing to Gamble?
244·2 months agoImportant to remember that Trump is doing all this to prevent further damaging evidence of himself and minors being released by the Israelis. He avoided conflict as long as he could until Netanyahu paid him a visit two weeks ago followed up by rumours of an incriminating video began circulating. How long he will continue with this depends on how much global economic damage occurs, how much the Gulf states that pay him can tolerate, and how many US military personnel are killed.

Good grief!
And also the concept of both siding an argument. For example, if an astronomer is interviewed to talk about the curvature of the earth, a flat-earther will also be invited to offer an ‘alternative’ opinion

12·4 months agoMeanwhile the German police viciously beat anti-genocide protestors, the British government jails protestors against Israeli arms exports without charges and watches held protestors starve away, the Hungarian government drifts onwards towards full blown fascism, and citizens across the EU are voting for the far right because they can no longer afford the basics in life

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•If the protests in Iran win/topple the government what will it look like immediately afterwards? Also what would be the good or bad about installing a monarchy again?
151·4 months agoThere will be chaos. Imagine Libya but ten times worse. Israel will bomb regularly to maintain instability and the Americans will be pitting groups against each other, with the Saudis and UAE backing ISIL and other extremist groups. If the Shah’s son does get into power, he will need to rule with an iron fist, with the backing of the US, as people still remember the tyranny of his father’s regime. Expect him to bring back the dreaded secret police his father used to have, with arrests, torture and disappearances. Meanwhile, the diaspora in the West, who are chanting for regime change won’t actually go back to live there again

Of course. Iran sent 4 PHDs. By sending these two clowns, the US demonstrated it’s not serious
