Can we actually fight back, though? most of the people using the Fedi are on Mastodon, primarily coming from places like Twitter and Reddit because of the recent drama. The biggest complaint new people have is about how complicated Masto and other fediverse services are to get into for people who aren’t tech savvy, between choosing different instances and figuring out how to use them. Meanwhile, Meta provides a familiar, convenient experience from a brand they already know, even with its horrible reputation. Then when 90% of “fediverse” users are on Threads instead of the rest of the fedi, they’ll announce that they are dropping support for ActivityPub and there will only be a few thousand people left elsewhere to mourn it.

Whelp, time to pack up I guess. Mastodon is the biggest player in the fediverse right now, so if Meta EEE’s us then the fediverse as a concept is doomed.

How the fuck do you think language evolves? People say what sounds better or is more convenient. If they didn’t we would still be speaking like Shakespeare or have a dozen different conjugations for every use of a word.

AAVE is a good example of this. I agree, but I also think that porn should still be welcome here. The issue is there needs to be better control over it entering the feeds, not that the communities themselves should be abolished.

I have really bad self esteem and worry a lot about making women uncomfortable, so I went there and ended up being inundated with the “men can never atone for their sins and if you disagree you are an incel and part of the problem” rhetoric. But since they’re supposed to be the “good side,” I felt guilty for not agreeing entirely, even if it meant wanting to kill myself so that women can thrive without fear.

obviously I still agree with feminism and advocate for women’s rights, but since that place is filled with the venting of millions of people all at once, you have to be careful or it will do damage to your psyche.

I just hope it will end up being more sane than the one on Reddit
