  • My wife comes from the west. I am from the East. We live in Nova Scotia now but we spent most of our lives in the west. We made some money in the oil and gas industry though it was in environmental reclamation not extraction.

Some of her family are showing their true colors right now, loudly and proudly on Facebook and she is reading it all. People that tell her they love her are saying how we are all just in it for the transfer payments. It’s all for the gravy train to keep rolling. She’s watching her family disintegrate in real time on Facebook and tell her that she’s a piece of shit as are her friends and relatives from my family, for voting against fascism.

We’re as fucked as our neighbors to the south.

People are gonna hate this but here it is…

From my point of view as a disabled Canadian with a young family, who is close to many members of the local first Nations community, the left is as fascist as the right.

They treat minorities and disabled people like chattel. We live in poverty and are actively pursued if we attempt to bring ourselves out of it. At the same time they bail out our own billionaire olygarchs who have much more than they could ever need. They allow them to flaunt the laws of our country and give them a mere “slap on the wrist” for any infractions though they could pay hundreds of millions easily that could be used for better services for all Canadians.

Let’s all start calling it what it is and stop being nice about things. They need us to be poor and sick so there is fear in the so called middle class of ending up like us. Of losing everything because you got sick or hurt at work. Maybe your skin is the wrong color, your sex isn’t typical or your government has been trying to exterminate you for your entire existence.

They need you to go to work and to vote for them. They need you not to challenge them and hate one another because of your political beliefs, your racism or sexism, or your implied class. They need you to forget about us and argue with us. They need you to keep us down. And you do.

Until someone starts standing up for the little guys over here screaming at you, we will continue to be a fascist dictatorship to a portion of our population and the vast majority of people on both sides of the political spectrum couldn’t give a fuck.

  • As someone who lives in poverty thanks to my fellow Canadians not standing up for people like me and ignoring the issues that affect my family the most, I will continue to add that first Nations, minorities and people with disabilities live in a fascist state right now in Canada. No matter the government and that needs to change. Now.

Only the people of the country standing up to the parties and politicians will change this. As you have pointed out electoral reform is already supported by the vast majority of Canadians and has a very strong voice that keeps getting stronger. It is a major issue for many Canadians as it should be.

Who mentions the first Nations and the disabled when they speak or act within our government? Who is fighting for the rights of those with the smallest voices? How many Canadians even know these issues exist for us? Who feeds my kids when I cannot because my government and the people of my country couldn’t care less about us the most vulnerable members of your society? Who cares for their health needs because I can no longer can?Who makes sure they grow up healthy and strong and smart and not a drain on society as a whole? Me. But I can’t do that because I live below poverty for a single individual in my province but I have 3 kids. All this simply because I developed an illness that broke my body.

This doesn’t need to be a single issue win but if we make it that, we ensure the country continues down a path towards fascism and American style politics no matter the reform to our voting system. You get your single issue reform and the country keeps on ticking like it always has. Smashing the little guy into bits. That’s fascism and it’s as much a part of our country as it is the Americans we deride so much.

People matter. If you watch the Americans right now they’re at one another’s throats. We aren’t far off that in our own country. Stand up for the little guy while you fight.

    That’s Canadian.
