Wow, Joel has been tireless in his effort to get the ultimate edition of this film on disc. He says in the linked thread that he even reached out to large JCVD fan pages on Instagram to ask them to put out the call to see if anyone owned an uncut Kickboxer film print (so Lionsgate could produce the uncut 4K). Not a single one was willing to ask their subscribers.
Yes, and I believe the Anthology set also comes with the Skynet version.
Buy this version if you want it on Blu-ray.
Both are pretty cheap. T2 is sort of infamous as one of the worst 4K discs, but some people don’t mind it. I own both and there are pros and cons to each, but there’s nothing wrong with the Blu-ray if you want to play it safe.
Now try importing a 4K from Japan
It’s UHD, so you can always import it if you want.
Physical media is a niche industry now. A company like Imprint would have purchased the rights to this movie in a batch that included other movies that aren’t as popular. A movie with this much name recognition is like the Christmas season for them, so they need to produce deluxe sets like these to recoup their investment on the entire batch and turn an outsized profit to fund all the other less well-known films they want to release.
Don’t worry, there will definitely be a regular edition at a later date (possibly without the extended cut, likely without all the extra Blu-ray discs). They’ll want to sell as many copies of this movie as possible.
I preordered Shawscope 3. As for the rest, my wallet needs a break, so thank you Arrow for not releasing anything else I need!
If you don’t have one already, I’d pick up this release. It’ll be about the same price as a preowned A&E set, and it comes in a neat box with a few Danger Man episodes in high def.
I’m just saying there’s no reason to replace an existing copy of the A&E set.
For anyone tempted to double dip, except for the Danger Man inclusion and a handful of interviews, just about everything in this release was in the original A&E Blu-ray release.
Also Blake’s 7 will now be taking one of the Doctor Who release slots per year for the next four years, which slows the release pace even further.
I’ve never seen it, but I’m a Doctor Who and sci-fi fan and I’m pretty interested. Gives me proto-Farscape vibes from the trailer.
Apparently these are taking one of the Doctor Who release slots and releasing one per year for four years. Woof. Of course the full release is dependent on sales of the earlier series.
Since this was mostly shot on video, here’s hoping there’s a North American release as well so each region gets the appropriate frame timing for their region.
Even though the BBC said new releases will continue despite Disney holding the streaming rights, I’m nervous about them finishing their releases of classic Who on Blu-ray. There are still a number of stories and series that remain to be released in the format, particularly from the first three seasons.
I buy a lot of Criterion discs and I have absolutely zero interest in this set for all the reasons outlined in the article.
I wish they would’ve put out multiple director sets that have never been released before instead as a celebration of 40 years. I can give them a list if they’d like.
God forbid someone exhibit humility and introspection. Nope, just commit to being right and never listen to anyone.
Bad question framing and bad answer. The issue is the AI distortions, not the grain. Cameron surely knows this, so he’s responding with a straw man.
Get a life? It’s your industry, man. And maybe don’t denigrate the people buying your movies. Lots of other studios get this right.
That said, I think the online criticism of True Lies (haven’t watched the Aliens disc yet) is overblown except for maybe 3-4 scenes where it’s super obvious, awful, and distracting.
At least The Abyss looked great.
Pressed discs are alive and well. Sony has been outsourcing Blu-ray manufacturing for years anyway, so the recent announcement changed nothing. BD-Rs are probably on life support, though.
Oh man, I hope Claptrap says his iconic line, “I… am Steve”
