  • Honestly, I try to get back to sleep for a few minutes and if that doesn’t work, I’ll just get up and start my day. Same happened today at 5am, currently 6am and I already updated my phone, read and replied to my e-mails, spent a few minutes here to read a little, it’s not that bad. My argument is that if I try to lay there I will unconciously make the bed a place where I feel frustrated. So I never lay there half awake or bedrot with my phone in the mornings as both of that will lead to me being unable to properly fall asleep in the evening as I will start hating going to bed. Currently I’m on my couch in a blanket, which isn’t far from bedrotting, but I’m not making the bed a place I resent by choosing to stay in there.

  • Yeah it is, but that doesn’t make the concept of it any less valid. Conciousness is the moment when you can think about more than just what your senses tell you, it’s the awareness of internal and external experiences and how much you are aware of them are the levels of conciousness. You could call in as much of a human construct as the concept of time, but that doesn’t change the fact that it’s describing something concrete. Just look up something like “levels of conciousness” and think about it a little, it really is such an interesting topic! Then again, by that definition, a good chunk of humans fall on the very lowest points of the scale. Again, not drawing any conclusions, this and my previous message are just to point out that this is deeper an more interesting than some people in this comment section make it out to be.

  • We have mapped a fruit fly brain and can make it play DOOM. I mean people don’t have much empathy for them in real life, but they do recognize it’s at least a living thing. Does that mean the 1:1 replica playing tetris is a living thing? Is it concious, both living or on a PC for that argument? If we scaled up the same technology and emulated a hamster’s brain 1:1 would that be considered concious? What about a human? Is it even fair to compare a fruit fly brain to an LLM? I’m not taking any stance here, I’m just saying it’s a super interesting topic. Cyberpunk 2077 explores that theory very well and I still have no answer as to what I think.

  • Yes, ten years ago when I already spoke/wrote perfect English on paper but didn’t have much experience talking to actual people (CS GO voice chat doesn’t count) I often had times where what I wrote in English would have been a perfectly reasonable way to express an emotion in German, but the other person found it odd. Of course I didn’t literally translate a German expression 1:1, that would not be the yellow of the egg (ha). Instead I struggled to for example with a general way to acknowledge the feelings of the other person, I always got confused responses since the words in isolation were grammatically correct and in German would have been empathic enough, but the, I wanna say, “social weight” of the words was actually way off. Again, I was already speaking perfect English back then, but with no real-world experience. Societal differences may have also played a role, as Germans are generally regarded to be more cold than the English or the inhabitants of the FSA (Facistic States of America) plus me having autism didn’t exactly provide for a good basis of understanding the weight or intended emotion of the words I chose back then. Now I think I have a good understanding, but I have to conciously “translate the emotion” as well as the actual language. So yeah, I completely get you.

  • Interesting, thank you for that link! I was also thinking about bootc as a candidate but that seemed unintuitive to me so I went with ostree for now. The current implementation needs some refining but definitely is a better start that I imagined, quite happy how it turned out.

Regarding the quotes, I’m brainstorming if there’s a way to, I wanna say “re-route” the pacman commands to edit the package list so you use the pacman commands like usual but they get applied as if you use the gui. It’s definitely possible but I’m thinking about how to get that to actually work in a clean way.

My intention behind that statement is that you aren’t forced to use say flatpaks only and under the hood the update mechanism is still pacman even tho you don’t call it directly, does that make sense?
