“If I downvote the bad news that means it isn’t happening right?” is one of the most frustrating and sadly common lemmy archetypes.

    • Isn’t that a violation of rule 4?

Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.

That’s just wishful thinking. Attempting to make voting anything other than I don’t like the thing is futile.

Yea - but that rule can only be enforced by proactive mod monitoring so it’s difficult to actually call out violations for.

If you ever see comments like “Gosh I hate this poster” please do report them…but if they just vote and move on it’s difficult to know why they voted.

Lemmy doesn’t really have good anti-brigading mod tools yet (or, at least, I’m unaware of them)… you can see this in places like c/conservative where absolutely every post and comment is downvoted to oblivion by people who think they’re helping change people’s minds… I’m personally not a fan of conservatives but brigading is just fucking dumb and annoying.
