Hi guys and gals. I’m pretty much the only moderator who checks in from time to time (and I’m barely here) and traffic has really saw an increase since our original Reddit group was taken down. That being the case, I believe we could use another moderator or two for our community here on Lemmy. The workload wouldn’t be much, we really just need to make sure people are following the rules (ours and those of LemmyNSFW in general), like no underage content or deep fakes, that sort of thing.

With that being said, I’m thinking of tweaking the rules some and would like some feedback. We’ve saw some posts here on Lemmy, which normally would have been taken down, because of the lack of an economy element. Do you think these posts should be allowed here for our LemmyNSFW community? We’re pretty unique on LemmyNSFW and are becoming one of the larger communities, so there isn’t really anything similar to what we’re doing like a popular celebrity “who would you rather?” community here, as was the case on Reddit. I also want to start a three post per day maximum rule, so we don’t overwhelm the servers. The admins suggest, “Please only post a few posts to a community at a time. You may mean well by posting several posts at once, but because of lemmy’s limited algorithms this will saturate the feeds of many people on this instance and other instances.” Of course we had a two post maximum on Reddit, so nothing new really. I may also reword some of the rules and take out any that are now redundant here on Lemmy, and include some of the LemmyNSFW rules, in case people haven’t read those.

Also, as you probably have noted, LemmyNSFW and the Lemmy development team, which are separate, are looking for donations to keep the servers running and updated, so please keep that in mind if you have a few extra dollars one month. It will help in maintaining and improving our experience here, where we have the freedoms we don’t elsewhere anymore. Thanks.

I’ve always preferred rules simply for the sake of clarification, so everyone knows what is and is not acceptable to post, not to be more restrictive. I’m definitely leaning toward leniency and not even suggesting a so many strikes and you’re banned policy at this point, but the rules are there to let folks know why a post might get removed.

I’m also in agreement with allowing as much as possible and building up the community, if everyone else is on board. It’s not the Reddit of old where you could go to one of a half dozen other popular pick a celeb type communities. Essentially the important rules we’ve always had are in line with LemmyNSFW’s rules, such as no minors or fakes and AI altered images, and the latter since that can cause legal issues.

What do you think of the rules as they stand? I’m thinking of only banning people if they, after being warned more than once, continue to harass or insult other members and their posts, to avoid unnecessary negativity in the community. That was pretty rare, but did happen on occasion, on Reddit. Maybe if someone intentionally and repeatedly posts content against the rules also.
