Immigrant rights advocate Setareh Ghandehari called the move “another marker of an authoritarian regime.”
I’m sure the soldiers appreciate being pawns in a political game.
isn’t that the definition of soldier
like, what other piece in the board would it be
No, soldiers are supposed to protect and defend your country. This isnt that, not even a little bit.
Boy, do I have a bridge to sell to you
It’s easy to take the cynical view, but that “defend the country” line is what a lot of those soldiers were told by the recruiters, and more importantly, is what a lot of those soldiers believe.
And thru the recruiting and training process, they are lied to and broken, to follow orders without question.
Yes, some will have no problem questioning authority, and finding ways to do their job without actively harming others. But there will be many more who are afraid of losing their livelihoods, and will be more likely to intimidate or harm another out of fear due to self preservation.
And then there will be those who want to hurt others, and will do it out of joy.
If you’ve been alive in the last two decades, you can’t play the ignorance card.
I mean the brainwashing is very strong, but still.
Vision of money, better opportunities in general or other selfish shit would still convince me more than ‘defending our country which was never fucking invaded’.
Recruiters target 18 year olds. Not exactly a group with tons of worldly experience and perspective.
Umm, why? No one is asking for help…
The corrections facility by me is ALWAYS hiring. Because it’s a shit job. Last ad I saw was for $23/hr.
