    I think the only reason it sounds goofy is because of the same voices and dialects being used everywhere, so when they do use a different dialect, it’s usually a reference to something. Farmer stereotypes get the remote farmer accents, “foreigner” stereotypes get a generic foreign accent, and every other character sounds like they grew up together in the same neighbourhood.

    I’m kind of glad we don’t really do dubbed movies for adults over here, I have plenty of childhood memories of the quality of Dutch voice actors in general, let alone their diversity. I know they’re doing the best they can, but there aren’t that many Dutch speakers. For double damage, most good VAs also do commercials and radio work, so you end up with characters sounding like the ad selling you skin ointments.

    (that said, the Dutch voice for Sponge Bob will always sound better than the English one to me, they really nailed that show)
