I dozed a bit and woke to silence, then heard her in the patch of scrub trees not far from my window: who-who-whoooo, with a trill in the last “whoooo”, over and over. The barred owl female, calling her mate who was hit by a car.
I hope she eats well, and not on the kitten I adopted!
