What I’m not altogether clear on is how keeping his seat empty benefits Republicans. Doesn’t this mean that they are short one vote in the Senate?

It avoids an election they are afraid of losing, which would leave them short one vote and the Democrats up one vote.

Ah, so the election would be bipartisan? That makes sense for the Republicans but doesn’t then explain why the Democrats aren’t demanding the election go ahead in his absence. The fucker is obviously dead.

I mean, I know the Dems often act as controlled opposition, but this is just embarrassing.

It also tests the waters for further ignoring the law and Democrats are so far failing to provide any deterance.

They know the score with an empty seat and it’s still good enough.

They don’t want to risk an unknown they didn’t need to face.

It’s not even an election, it’s an appointment. Beshear would get to appoint a Senate seat.

The 2024 law taking that power away from him has already been ruled to violate Kentucky’s constitution in another case.

There’s not one. This is all conspiracy nonsense.

All the answers are “because they’re afraid to lose the seat to a democrat.” In rural Kentucky? Get out of here with that nonsense.

The Occam’s Razor answer is that he’s just not dead. I’d bet the farm on it.

He’s not physically dead because they’re keeping him on life support and refuse to pull the plug until after August 3rd. He’s likely been brain dead since they carried him out of his house on the stretcher.

I guarantee that there will be a “sad” announcement within 48 hours of August 3rd that McConnell has passed away peacefully.

Why? Like, to what end? It doesn’t make sense on its face. It only hurts the Republicans to hide this information.

The far more likely explanation is that he’s too sick to go into work because he’s old and fell. But he’s not any more actually incapable of fulfilling the role than he was 6mo ago.

He’s ancient and was barely holding it together before he fell. I’m sure he’s pretty battered. I’m sure it’ll take him some time to heal at all because, again, he’s pushing 90.

But this idea that he’s secretly a vegetable and the Republicans are covering it up makes absolutely no sense. It’s just Newsmax style pandering but for the left.

It’s actually very simple and makes perfect sense. If McConnell dies before August 3rd, a special election to fill the seat must be held. It’s widely believed that Thomas Massee, a staunch Trump critic, will win it, and it will shift the balance of power. If McConnell is allowed to lie in a vegetative state until August 4th and then dies, the seat will remain vacant until the midterm elections, and the winner won’t be seated until January. Republicans believe that it’s better to have an empty seat for the rest of the year as opposed to one filled by someone who will align with Democrats.

So, your argument is that the Republicans think the wrong Republican will win? Massie doesn’t like Trump, but he’s a pretty staunch conservative. He would still vote with them 90% of the time.

But all this dismisses the fact that Massie has said repeatedly he’s not interested at all in running for Mitch’s seat. So that’s not even on the table.

So, with that explanation DoA, what other explanation is there?

Given all the evidence by this point, Occam’s Razor would suggest he is dead. Or comatose, at the very least.

They’re already covering it up. A simple interview would be enough proof, but all they managed to share is a single sus photo.

This has some real “if Obama was an actual citizen with nothing to hide, he would just share his long form birth certificate already,” energy.

People were saying he was dead. He posted a photo. People screamed "that evidence isn’t good enough, we need more evidence!” If he posted a video, people would say it’s just AI. If he had someone come see him, people would just say they’re a paid actor.

This is how conspiracy theories work. No amount of evidence is ever enough to convince you that the thing you want to believe isn’t true. Feeding evidence into that machine is an exercise in futility, which is probably why he isn’t engaging with the conspiracy theorists.

He posted a photo huh? You mean the one of he and wife smiling holding hands in the exact same pose, wearing the same clothes, and with the same expression as in a vacation pic from a few years earlier? The photo with the newspaper that has gobblygook text on parts of it? That photo couldn’t have been AI generated, could it?!?

Dude, you cannot be this gullible. If he looked HALF as good as in that picture, Republicans would have trotted him out a long time ago. Why are they doing this? See my comment above about Thomas Massee.

Dude, do you read the links that you post?

The image is of low quality, making it difficult to determine key details when we zoom in. While the image displays no clear signs of AI generation, we could not definitively rule out other forms of digital alteration . Until we receive a response from McConnell’s staff and obtain video footage of McConnell, we leave this claim unrated.

Just because it wasn’t generated with OpenAI or Gemini, doesn’t mean that it isn’t AI generated/manipulated. Or, and hear me out, old school Photoshop.

You’ve no response to: if McConnell looks this good, why don’t they have him in front of every right wing news media?
