Have fun with that. What was the issue at work?
There’s a list but the main themes are the overall degradation in performance when they “upgraded” my PC from 10 to 11 and just how sloppy and half assed it seems to be. The obfuscated settings, the way it constantly seems to be putting itself in the way of whatever I’m trying to do, the spike of anger I get every time I open the start menu… Basically the overall experience just got worse by just about every measure.
On the other hand they finally introduced tabs to file explorer and powershell a decade late so I guess there’s that… Even those are still worse than what 3rd party apps who don’t have billions to spend on development though.
I upgraded from 10 to 11 about 5 years ago, and there definitely is a learning curve. I would never go back to Windows 10. My experience was different, even PC’s that didn’t meet the 11 requirements ran better. I generally put my most used apps on the taskbar, and end up just searching for lesser used apps in the start menu. Not sure what you mean by ‘putting itself in the way’. Do you have an example of this?
The easiest example that comes to mind without having it in front of me is the giant “recommended” section when you open the start menu or file explorer. It’s just bullshit I have to scroll past every time. It wouldn’t be as bad but someone decided having a indecipherable picture of whatever is in the document or a big word icon was somehow useful. And it shouldn’t be in the start menu at all, who’s opening documents from their start menu? The fact that these things made it to prod without someone testing it and being like “wait a minute, this sucks actually” is infuriating to me. They’re a billion dollar corporation, they can easily afford to test shit. Just about everything they turn out should be gold. The fact that they don’t is just rubbing their disdain for their users in our faces.
The constant shoving OneDrive in my face is another issue. I don’t use it, I don’t need it, I have a backup of my data, I’m not going to set this up, I don’t need to be reminded in three weeks, just fuck off.
That is true, but it is also a setting easily changed with a one time update. I have zero problem with options. I don’t like the recommended section, but maybe some folks do. Same as Onedrive. Just google ‘how to use Windows without Onedrive’ and you’ll have it gone in a minute or two.
