Yeah too bad, they should have hilighted that on GNOME DE with OpenSUSE it prompts you that updates are available and you hit OK or cancel. KDE might have something similar.
pwd even when the bash prompt tells me where I am
Seems odd. Like going to all that trouble then not ditching all the evidence, unless he had other targets he was working on next.
Thanks, that’s a great write up
I guess in my case the batteries may have had enough to signal they were functional, but they were effectively dead and had no UPS backup sustaining power. One battery had started to buldge its container. I can see it as being an as designed feature, that way they never let you down in a powerfailure event, as you get advanced notice that the battery is no longer working LOL. Had a corporation go down a few years ago, they had not replaced UPS batteries, when power wentout all UPS batteries were dead and couldn’t sustain the servers until backup generator came online.
My CyberPower is 14 years old now still working fine, just needed battery swap at 10 year mark.
Haven’t had this happen. Battery pack failed after 10 years. Unit still provided mains AC through battery backup plugs. There is a switcher inside to flip between mains and battery…maybe that was going bad in what you describe.
Why not sata or nvme drives?
As a cancer survivor my out of pocket cost was $70 parking pass for the hospital Parking lot.
Transport to from hospital I did myself until the nausea and fatigue got bad, then a local church volunteered and arranged a driver for me.
Ongoing care for me has been buying a high fluoride toothpaste which is about twice the price.
So lost wages: I can see this being an issues. IF you are under a $ amount threshold previous tax year you can get income replacement through a cancer foundation fund. I earned too much the year before so did not qualify.
So for me it meant working anyway because I was supporting my family. Thankfully I had a WFH setup, so I could do 20 hours a week at whatever time of day I felt up to it, and in between vomiting. Some people may not have fortitude to do that and lose all their monthly income for several months.
One saving grace, Critical Illness Insurance. We had a line of credit that had a balance. The CII wiped the balance clean. So that was helpful during recovery.
Edit: I was self employed so had no disability insurance via work. However Canada Pension Plan has a disabilty plan you can tap into prior to retirement until you are back to normal. It only gives about $1000 a month currently I think
This year we have seen more houses with Christmas lights and they went up in November, so doesn’t seemed diminished.
I don’t think they mean brainwashing like a scientific technique to wipe your mind, but their are countless examples of a person in a cult or church or radical group where the constant bombardment of propeganda and apparent correctness ( by number of believers ) alters the persons belief system.
Might have been this product line https://trash2treasure.wordpress.com/tag/ralph-lauren-smoke-glaze/
Yeah, should have been more descriptive. I have purchased smokers homes. Getting walls and ceiling clean was a nightmare. The Ralph Lauren paints was part of their antiquing collection?? I believe. It had various types like heavy smoke, light smoke and nicotene. They were sort of a translucent after finish you applied. They would not give the stickiness of nicotene tar, but give the yellowed over layer. You could paint on thick, but it looked like many used the spray on and dab off, to get either smoke or nicotene accumulation at corners and have general wall the chosen colour. It found it hilarious that people would be spending top dollar on Ralph Lauren with purpose of making your wallpaper or painted wall look dirty. But maybe it got used to remodel heritage homes or movie sets to get the era right.
Went to my dads work, and at the time our school still used punch cards and ditto machines a lot, and my dad’s work had a photocopier (WOW!) that he gave me free reign on. I photocopied a bunch of images onto transparencies , then arranged those on top of each other for some final copies. It was like building an image in Photoshop with layers, at a time when graphic art would have been 100% manual cutting an pasting of actual paper and vinyl tape spools. Pretty awesome day.
People’s intrusive thoughts can vary greatly from things like suicidal ideation, thoughts of swerving into oncoming traffic, inappropriate sexual stuff, but can also include theft etc. Not everyone is disturbed by them to the point of fixating on them either. Some people know how to let them flow in and back out without giving them power
I guess some people have trouble with impulse control so intrusive thoughts sometimes become actions.
Salt: in the ground for millions of years.
Mining company: dig that up and slap an expiry date on it
For a lot of applications the correct time may not matter but for something like homeassstant or syncthing you want your container time to be correct on a restart
GNOME puts it right in your face as a dialog message…but yeah people will ignore it
