Jeffries and a few other Dem Reps did put out a statement defending her (arc). They could and should be doing more interviews and posts and keeping the focus on this , and they’re extremely suceptible to the kind of ground paving behavior you’re describing, but I think some of them actually have learned something from the 2024 election and have improved a tiny bit.

Except that we have seen some of the biggest and most well organized protest movements in American history all happen within the last 25 years, so I’m not really seeing the apathy you’re talking about. What I have seen a ton of is leadership that’s unwilling to do what protesters from the Iraq War to Occupy Wall Street to Black Lives Matter were demanding and who put a lot of time and energy into shutting down all of those movements, and I think that explains a lot more about the conspiracy theory nonsense that is cropping up in some places. When someone who just got done telling you “actually, we had to bail out the banks and we couldn’t send any of their leadership to prison” goes on to talk about the moon landing, or the importance of getting vaccinated, or other things that aren’t total bullshit unfortunately people tend to just reject all of it.

I am really deeply convinced most of the people who make comments like that online are right wing trolls, because there’s pretty much no better advertisement for the Republican party at this point than pretending like there’s a sizable group of people who actually liked the Biden administration. Like even if you are a Joe Biden superfan, you’ve gotta understand he got rejected in 2024 and there’s zero point now in trying to rehabilitate his brand. Telling everyone how great Newsome is I would understand (though obviously disagree with), but simping for Biden at this point?
