I didn’t know it existed! I have begun to hate YouTube, the suggestions for other videos are crap and it is overflowing with too many, too stupid ads. Peertube, here I come!

For many years, I have been thinking about migrating to some other spot, the south of France, Italy, UK, Spain , but then I discovered that it is much better to be a tourist in exotic places. I’ve met quite a few people who have moved to those places, and oh my god can they complain about their new host country. On top of that, many of them keep the option open to go home, for instance for healthcare reasons, or when they get older, but that is not emigrating; then you live in two countries, and in that case, I would feel very lost and “in between”. If you move to another country , you will need to integrate; get involved in administrative problems and political issues, -and you must learn the local language really well, speaking just a few words doesn’t mean that you have truly arrived. So, the novelty and exotic experience wears off quite quickly. So I’m staying put, I just make sure my EV is charged, the railway station is close by, I have cash in the bank,and my passport is up-to-date.

i’ve seen many reasons for emigration, but this one tops them all.

Atheist here. These religious sects are like chilli in the soup, I’m intrigued by them no end, can read about them for hours. Sometimes they even start doing weird, unethical or illegal stuff, wow human’s phantasy is truly bigger than the universe. In France we have mostly Jehovas, they just stand around like ghouls, saying nothing. But since they had some scandals (involving children) they have increased their presence. In Belgium and London I’ve met Orthodox Jews, that’s heavy soup too, almost too spicy. I always pity the children, because escape from a sect is hard.

If only I were 14 again!

I’m getting more cynical as I get older, I witnessed the moon landings when I was young and I was thrilled. Humans are not made to live in, or to travel though space. Space, with its vacuum and high radiation levels is extremely unwelcoming. We better stay on Earth and fix our beautiful planet! But, it is again a space race, if NASA or Bezos or musk don’t get there first, the Chinese might. OMG! The Chinese! So we invent a lot of reasons why humans must live on the moon or mars - whereas our robots are doing a pretty good job in exploring these planets or the universe.

Did the US delegation really “storm out”? Looked more like waddling.

Actually, I am from Trier in Germany, where Karl Marx was born. Although in the US he’s mostly known exclusively (and wrongly) as the founder of communism, in Europe his ideas have mostly led to the creation of social democratic parties, which brought considerable wealth to many countries here, in the form of social-economics (Germany, Sweden, Netherlands, France, etc.). So Marx should be considered and lauded as an important philosopher. Naturally, his image has been hijacked eg by communist Russia, with which he probably wouldn’t have agreed himself.

Actually, I am employed at the US standards office in Washington DC, AND this was indeed discussed! But we figured out (based on the last census results) that only few fellow citizens understand the concept of “liters” - in fact only scientists seem to be able to handle this unit, and they are being fired right, left and center (government strategy). I would still vote for Trump though, in an upcoming election.
