Makes me wonder how these mice reach for the pitchers, bowls, cups, and anything above. So much of the kitchen is unavailable to them unless they have a ladder somewhere.
Regardless, a lovely picture. Love the art style.

Stopped using Reddit when the API disaster happened. Switched to Lemmy and stayed there for about 2 years. Now, I’m experimenting with Piefed.

1·2 days ago😄 Such a familiar feeling, especially when it comes to software. You go to the official site and read until you fall asleep. Usually, I’ll just skip that and go straight to the relevant Wikipedia site, read the first three lines, and get the general idea of what that thing is all about. Works well with established technologies I haven’t heard of before. Doesn’t work with things that were invented two months ago.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Why is traveling such a big deal for people?English
2·3 days agoTravel has many facets, and growing, learning, and broadening your horizons are certainly part of it. Those reasons aren’t fake, but I’d argue none of them are the core reason why people think so highly of travel. Naturally, travel often involves conspicuous consumption, spending lots of money, polluting the environment, and general decadence. That’s why people feel the need to justify it—that’s why you hear so much about the secondary reasons.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•Ad companies are the ones destroying civilizationEnglish
2·3 days agoThe advertisement-based business model has turned out to be highly successful, just like the newspapers have proven. However, magazines were a hybrid solution. You would pay for the magazine, but there would still be a few ads. Reminds me of modern Netflix actually.

Additional info on lockdown mode
Lockdown Mode is an optional, extreme protection that’s designed for the very few individuals who, because of who they are or what they do, might be personally targeted by some of the most sophisticated digital threats. Most people are never targeted by attacks of this nature.
If you’ve identified in your threat model that your phone could fall into the wrong hands, and someone might try to hack into it, using lockdown could save the day. Very least, the hackers are not going to have an easy day.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•Ad companies are the ones destroying civilizationEnglish
17·4 days agoThat’s an interesting thought, and I would like to add a few things to it.
The whole idea of having ad funded things is fundamentally flawed. It has also become too dominant, and difficult to compete with. Ads are the tool used in this business model, but are they really the root cause of the problems you mentioned? I would say no.
Theoretically, you could still have ads without ruining everything. When other business models aren’t competitive enough, the whole system naturally gravitates to the mess we’re currently in.
I think cheap mobile games have showed that you can charge a small amount of money, and people will be willing to pay up. That way, everything doesn’t have to be ad funded. It’s just that this business model doesn’t appear to be appealing enough in other arenas, and that’s a real problem.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Why is traveling such a big deal for people?English
2·4 days agoAttitudes have changed a bit since short distance flights aren’t prohibitively expensive any more. However, that’s still a bit of an exception. To many “air travel” refers to flying to a tourist destination once a year instead of attending a quarterly business meeting.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Why is traveling such a big deal for people?English
55·5 days agoWhen air travel became available, it was super expensive, which meant that only rich people could do it. Several decades later, it became cheap enough that middle-class people could travel occasionally. Because of that history, travelling got a shimmering magic aura in our minds.
It’s what rich people do, and most people want to be like them in one way or another.

2·5 days agoIf it’s a generic action movie, millions worth of material damage too. Broken cars, exploded buildings etc.
If it’s a Marvel movie, half the city is usually levelled by the time we’re done with the plot. Who knows how many people die every time the protagonist goes shopping.
