The Mayor as a former chief of police does not want to blame the police. While the people who signed a search warrant without seeing any evidence are clearly at fault here, they did not sign those out of thin air - the police or the DA asked the judge to do it, well knowing it had no base.

So there are several people who belong in the slammer for this violation.

This is garbage. If his constituents have half a brain in their head, they will vote him out next cycle to give him some time to reflect. Clearly, he’s got too much going on a mayor to ponder things like the constitution.

Isn’t the mayor implicated in this somehow, because the paper was reporting on some corruption or illegal behavior by the mayor?

This is essentially him saying “well it didn’t hurt to ask” which is shit. These are police they should have to have a reason to ask in the first place.
