Originally, Jor-L was simply in a rush to get his son off the dying planet.

Yes, he was originally Jor-L, not Jor-El.
The story has changed a lot over the years, but the consensus opinion is that Jor-El picked it because of the yellow sun.
My understanding of the current canon is that there was some degree of knowledge of earth, and that it having both a yellow sun and a compatible dominant lifeform were the deciding factors.
Now, that comes with the caveat that DC reboots their shit every six months. So what current canon is can change from when you pick up an issue and when you’re done reading it. I’m exaggerating for effect, but not too damn much lol.
Legit though, I’m not currently following any comics at all, so there’s a decent chance my understanding of canon is either no longer in place, or my memory has it wrong, but that’s what I remember
A character is a construct created by a scenarist, not a person, thus, the scenarist must be asked the question.
We could also reverse the question to make things interesting: why was superman written as coming from another planet? What does it reflect of his creator’s experiences, intents and influences?
They heard Biden opened up the border.
