[an orange character is driving a bulldozer, facing a house]
I am going to bulldoze your house

[a yellow character is shocked]

[yellow asks politely, hands clasped]
Could you please not do that?

[orange, pushing the bulldozer’s controls, answers]
NO!

[yellow walks away from their house, looking dismayed]
Well, I guess I tried to do everything I could
Too bad

[orange smiles smugly as they bulldoze yellow’s house]

We even signed the big petition and did an op-ed in the WaPo, guess it’s time to take the L and move on, nothing else can be done.

    God, this shit is stupid.

Let me explain it one more time:

Violence is part of resistance, but acceptance of violence is part of fascism. One can be violent in a mission to change the world. It is undeniably a fast but chaotic and imprecise way to make change. However, it MUST make you an outcast. If you try to create a society where violence is accepted as a method of change, you won’t have a society when you are done. You will have a battledome. You don’t get to be the violent extremist and the hero of the people in anything but a fascist regime. Deal with it.

We already have a society where violence is accepted as a method of change. Look at the Iran War, or any of the other wars of aggression. Are they not trying to use violence to make changes in Iran?

Are those things accepted morally or accepted perforce? You don’t accept them morally, it would seem. Are you not part of this world? Are you alone in those views? Are those views absent from the American conceptual space? Of course not. Power differentials allow unpopular actions, and the trend toward imperial presidency in America has created a massive power differential.

Are organizing, collective action, protests and strikes violent?

Collective action is inherently confrontational because there is always someone who disagrees with the collective’s view, but collective action alone is not inherently violent.

Nope. Those are all non-violent actions against fascism. But we’re starting to worry that non-violent peaceful actions have been ineffective, and beginning to wish for civil violence because bloodshed would be guaranteed to get rid of the 1% of people who are making life miserable for 99% of the population.

I don’t mind people disliking my work, but at least dislike it for the correct reason.

I make satire that require some reading comprehension, that aims to create discourse.

Pizzacake straight up draws what she means, there’s not much left to the imagination.

(that is not criticism of her or her work fwiw, she’s cool, just pointing out the difference)

Tired strawman against nonviolent resistance which has proven effective in many many situations. There is no universally right or wrong tactic to resist. It depends completely on the circumstances.

It’s not strictly against nonviolent resistance though IMO. It’s against protests that don’t do anything. You can nonviolently do a blockade or sabotage something, or do a strike, etc.

I suppose it could be taken either way. I agree with you that successful nonviolent resistance often involves more confrontational tactics.

I’m just tired of leftists acting as if the only reason we don’t have a better society is because people refuse to just start shooting. Reality is much more complex than this. But maybe the author was not making this exact argument.

Preaching non-violence is how conservatives have tricked millions to their deaths throughout history. They know non-violence is the hope of every normal person and they prey upon that hope. It is a deadly trick used to peacefully walk millions into gas chambers.

We have concentration camps now. Hegseth has fired 20% of the command staff to replace them with military leaders willing to kill civilians on U.S. soil. We are at the endgame for normal people right now. Stop trying to walk us into the camps peacefully.

We either finish Sherman’s work or we die at the hands of conservatives. There truly is no middle ground. Allowing pure evil to continue living at the “end” of the civil war has resulted in this situation. As long as they continue to live, conservatives will do absolutely everything in their power to exterminate the normal people. It’s not an illusion. Believe your eyes and ears and believe conservatives when they call us their enemy. They have loudly proclaimed their hate for us for over 100 years and we have turned the other cheek. They now have us at death’s door and are raising their rifle. Pretending peace will save us is a deadly mistake and is what they are hoping we will do.

Calls for peaceful solutions are deceptions designed to walk us to our deaths. Do not listen to the message of the enemy. Stand up and fucking fight.

          freedom fighter Weird antisocial asshole.

Seriously this was all over being told to pay to connect to the town sewer instead of pumping sewage into an irrigation ditch. This guy was just an asshole that decided to destroy his town because he couldn’t be a selfish fake-libertarian piece of shit and dump literal shit out in the open. The killdozer as an item is metal as fuck, but he died a pathetic shit-slinger who wrecked everyone else’s property and then blew his brains out to dodge accountability.

That’s one extreme of the story. The other extreme is that he’d been doing it, along with every other business in that area, for years, because there’s nothing out there. It’s just sand and rock for miles in all directions. There’s nothing to contaminate because nothing lives there.

The only reason he got involved in anything is because he was told it wasn’t going to cost him any money. He shows up and starts filling out the paperwork and it doesn’t say what he was told; it says he has to pay (souces differ) something like $6K-20K for an easement so he can dig up city property to access the sewer line to connect to it. He doesn’t sign that paper. Instead, he gets up and walks away from the table, leaving behind the paperwork he’d already filled out, which included his application to connect to city utilities. Since he filled out the application, they file it, process it, and approve it, which is what “allows” city hall to start levying fines against him for non-compliance.

Every other business in that area continued to do the exact same thing as him, but only he was being fined for it. What’s more, if he’d just stayed home that day and never signed anything, there’d be nothing anyone could do about it.

He knew he didn’t understand the system, so he didn’t want anything to do with it. Against his better judgement, he tried to comply. He started off acting in good faith. When he found out the other party wasn’t, he walked away from the deal. He should have taken every piece of paper with his signature on it with him, but he didn’t because he didn’t understand how the system works.

He thought that since he didn’t sign everything, that meant none of it was any good. When he got the letters from city hall about the fines, he did what he’d done with all the mail from city hall for years: threw it in the trash.

A city government, trying to expand its power and control, absued the system to extort money from someone who wanted nothing to do with them. If city hall had just left him, and well enough, alone, everything that followed could have been avoided.

Could be. It could also be about discourse, some people will condemn any form of protest that actually has impacts, and instead expect people to just do a peaceful protest that somehow uses magic and vibes to change the world

Seems to fit better with the US government trampling on their citizens rights, destroying every international diplomacy norm, accelerating the destruction of the environment, and all around being comical levels of evil. And the opposition has largely done nothing because they are trying maintain decorum and not upset corporate donors while being steamrolled by fascism.

Gandhi preached nonviolent resistance against conservatives and was murdered by conservatives.

MLK Jr. also preached nonviolent resistance against conservatives and was murdered by conservatives.

Preaching nonviolence against conservatives is a consistently deadly mistake.

Adding to what Bad said, Ghandi was the equivalent of, after the second panel, green getting a dozen people and standing in front of the bulldozer to force orange to either back off or kill you. Ghandi-style nonviolent takes guts and is not what’s being criticized here.

Gandhi built his movement on the back of centuries of violent anti-colonial resistance, in particular the HSRA campaigns which had proven british rule to be weak, and all the work done by Netaji before he was outed from the movement for his ties with nazi Germany (he was forgotten by history for being a bad person, but still played as big a role as Gandhi in India’s national liberation).

If Gandhi was born just 20 years earlier , he probably wouldn’t have made a difference at all. He arrived at the right time, when the empire was already crumbling from being sabotaged, and still reeling from the war. Like every other liberation movement, it was diversity of tactics that led to its success: the peaceful political force asking for change can only work if there’s a threat of ongoing violence in the background as long as their demands are not met.

Carrot and stick and all that. The peaceful protesters tend to be given a seat at the table sooner if the alternative is being killed by a car bomb.
